Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Global Strategic Alliances and Business Development, the Executive Director, Global Strategic Alliances will play a critical role in shaping the company's future through strategic planning, alliance management, and ensuring new partnerships align with Novavax's long-term plans and goals. This position will play a leading role in Novavax's key strategic alliances, foster strong relationships, cultivate talent and drive solutions that support the company's growth and expansion in the healthcare industry.

The successful leader will be a dynamic, experienced individual with a strong track record of strategy and team leadership across a variety of settings and topics in the biopharmaceutical industry. This individual must have the proven ability to effectively manage complex and dynamic projects, influence stakeholders within a global matrixed organization and across companies. This leader needs to exhibit effective communication and conflict resolution capabilities and is expected to take a hands-on approach of accomplishing goals within an organization that is dynamic and fast-moving.


Essential Functions

  • Oversee the management of Novavax's key strategic alliances, including, but not limited to alliances with Sanofi, the Serum Institute of India and SK Biosciences, ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and alignment with partner organizations. Monitor and evaluate alliance performance, identify areas of improvement, and implement strategies to enhance business outcomes. Ensure effective implementation and governance of alliances.
  • Establish Sanofi collaboration governance with clear charters, along with joint working teams, ensure project plans effectively achieve alliance goals.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategic plans, leveraging expertise to align alliance activities with Novavax's overarching business strategy. Drive efforts to align strategic initiatives and goals across Novavax and partner organizations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive and effective implementation of strategic plans.
  • Communicate alliance challenges, issues, and status to Novavax senior management in a regular and timely manner; propose solutions and support the resolution of such issues.
  • Actively participate in industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to enhance Novavax's visibility, reputation, and potential partnership opportunities.
  • Participate in business development activities on an as needed basis


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A minimum of 15 years post-graduate experience in the pharmaceutical industry is required.
  • Extensive experience managing global alliances; applied know-how of key alliance management principles including how to understand/apply contract language, escalate/mitigate issues, and demonstrate creative problem-solving.
  • Experience with post-deal integration, including proven record leading global co-development and co-commercialization partnerships.
  • Substantial knowledge of drug discovery, development, tech ops/CMS and commercialization, including strategies and insights into the current global regulatory environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively present complex issues and solutions to the executive team, Board of Directors, and/or other key stakeholders.
  • Experience leading high performing teams (direct and cross functional) with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, dynamic global environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated business acumen.
  • Demonstrated track record of nurturing and developing talent internally and recruiting external talent.

Education, Experience, Licenses & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA, PhD or JD highly preferred.
