General Summary of Position
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a key member of the interdisciplinary team to deliver patient-centered acute nursing care to individuals with a variety of medical issues or who are preparing for or recovering from surgery. The LPN as a collaborative team member in partnership with and under the supervision of the registered nurse.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Supports and assists the Gastroenterology Specialist with the performance of diagnostic and or therapeutic endoscopy procedures.
Anticipates the needs of the Gastroenterology Specialist during procedure by having all instrumentation and supplies ready prior to use.
Inspects and prepares equipment, instruments, and supplies prior to scheduled case ensuring no delay in procedure.
Assists in patient monitoring for tolerance of procedure and alerts physician and RN of any change in status.
Assists with specimen retrieval and preparation in accordance with established protocols.Labels all medications on the field in accordance with established protocols.
Participates in the process of universal time out during procedure.
Assists team members promptly with room turn-over and clean up with minimal supervision.
Assists with environmental services support such as linen management, trash removal and cleaning of equipment.
Assists with transport of equipment and supplies, as appropriate.Assists with the transfer and positioning of patients as directed by GI Specialist, Licensed Anesthesia Care Provider and or RN, on and off the OR table, stretcher, bed, etc.
Used endoscopes are properly log and labeled and returned to decontamination area as soon as procedure ends.
Maintains stretcher and or bed availability for patients in the operating room at all times.
Saves all used supply wrappers for charge purposes.
Reports to Director of the Operating Room seeking additional responsibility when assignments are completed.Assists in restocking Operating Rooms throughout the workday and prior to the end of the shift in accordance with PAR levels.
Reports malfunction of endoscopy equipment/instrumentation to Materials Coordinator immediately upon completion of a procedure.
Tags and removes malfunctioning equipment in need of repair from use.
Performs other duties as assigned.
