Job Summary

MHSADS seeks a dynamic Behavioral Health Therapist to support a newly formed Co-Responder Program that specializes in crisis intervention and stabilization services in response to calls to 911 for a behavioral health crisis throughout Loudoun County, including to individual's homes. Co-Responder Program also provides follow up to individuals after a 911 call for a behavioral health crisis.

  • Behavioral Health Therapists use their expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness, substance use disorders, and intellectual/developmental disabilities to provide crisis intervention and stabilization services throughout the community.
  • Co-Responder team activities include driving in law enforcement vehicles and responding to 911 calls for behavioral health crisis and Outreach to individuals/families after 911 calls for service with or without law enforcement.
  • Work is performed dealing with crisis situations that require making decisions involving people, resources, and property.
  • With a focus on the least restrictive behavioral health treatment options, the Behavioral Health Therapist evaluates individuals experiencing behavioral health and developmental disability crises and links them, their families, and their support systems to treatment and community resources, which may include the civil commitment process.
  • Regular work environment includes riding in law enforcement vehicle, being inside and outside, and entering multiple locations throughout the County, individual's homes, clinics, and offices.
  • Regular workday schedule includes hours beyond the usual workday and program will expand to 24 hours/7 days.
  • Must be fitted for ballistic vest and N-95 (or similar) mask to safely provide on-site services as needed.
  • Must be available to report to work (including driving vehicles) during inclement weather, disasters, and emergencies.
Successful candidates excel in complex, fast paced environments and are passionate about crisis work, with law enforcement, and support 24/7/365 crisis response with: astute clinical acumen, a collaborative approach to community partnerships, and excellent critical thinking skills. They are highly creative and adapt easily to rapidly changing, often competing demands for service.

Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for a $6,000 hiring bonus in accordance with the County's Hiring and Retention Bonus Program.
Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree; license eligible within one (1) year of hire or possess professional licensure through the VA Department of Health Professions Board as a: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW); Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC); Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP). Two (2) years of professional experience working with individuals who have a mental health and/or substance use diagnosis, which may include internship experience.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successfully passing pre-employment background check to include fingerprinting, credit, NCIC, DMV and TB test. Must have a good driving record and a valid driver's license in Virginia or regional state of residence.
