Job Summary

The Quality Manager provides leadership and coordinates strategic business initiatives required to drive process improvement across the organization in the achievement of an operational excellence environment. This is accomplished through application of knowledge in quality systems, driving adherence to disciplined systems and robust processes, and focused standardization of best practices; in conjunction with managing to a cohesive set of key performance metrics that provide an objective perspective on the business operating system health and effectiveness. The Quality Manager also creates and maintains cross functional relationships needed to foster a proactive engagement culture amongst the business operations team and a productive working relationship with customers.

Essential Job Responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Develop, maintain, and implement quality systems procedures and work instructions in compliance to customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Corrective/preventive action leader, advocate, and team player.
  • Standardize metrics and best practice.
  • Internal and External audit program leader.
  • Contract Review leader driving advanced product quality planning process and translation of requirements to operator level.
  • Customer advocate (Voice of the customer).
  • Process improvement leader focused on Cost of Poor-Quality improvement review, disposition and elimination of material review, concessions, corrective actions, and escapes.

  • Must possess practical understanding of core processes to analyze problems, communicate effectively and facilitate problem solving activities objectively and independently.
  • Ability to develop and maintain quality processes and systems that meet both customer and regulatory requirements and work for the business.
  • Ensure quality system metrics and key process indicators are maintained and that the results are used to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ability to identify, control and mitigate appropriate levels of systems, process, and product risk
  • Must consistently demonstrate Alcoa values and perform within the 4Es and a P performance management framework.
  • Must exhibit strength to stand on decisions which are not popular but open minded enough to effectively evaluate what is best for the business. High ethics, Voice of Customer, Conscience of the Organization.

Business Competency:

  • Possess production operation knowledge and experience relating to manufacturing, inspection, engineering, and customer interaction.
  • Ability to directly link, monitor and improve quality objectives with overall business objectives of the company,
  • Ability to apply problem solving methodology to positively impact business objectives.

Job Competence:

  • Strong experience and proficiency in understanding ISO 9000 and/or AS9100 along with knowledge in Statistical Tools and Techniques, NDE, APQP and Measurement System Analysis.
  • Lead cross functional quality and process improvement initiatives utilizing the Alcoa Process Management methodology.
  • Ability to build a practical and effective means of driving continuous improvement and compliance responsibilities to the process activities where work is being done.
  • Assure compliance to all applicable standards, business practices and documented procedures (including AS9100, ISO 9000, Nadcap special process disciplines) through an efficient and effective internal audit, corrective, and preventative action management system.
  • Work with all functions to ensure effective communication, corrective / preventative action and process improvement activities are coordinated. Ensure best practices and process improvements are communicated and consistently applied as appropriate.
  • Track a cohesive set of key performance metrics that provide the team with actionable information to drive improvement in the process, focusing on the overall performance of the quality management system.
  • Can effectively work through major and minor issues without getting emotionally disconnected with the issue and what is needed to resolve the issue professionally.

Communication:

  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to work with external and internal customers.
  • Establishing clear direction, intentions and objectives while being able to gain the support of others.
  • Ability to read and react to verbal and non-verbal communication while maintaining a level of professionalism.
  • Can effectively listen.

Coaching and Mentoring:

  • Effectively manage and develop direct reports and ensure succession plans are in place to have a sustained quality work force.
  • Understand people emotions, feelings, concerns, underlying issues, and problems. provide coaching and mentoring to a team
  • Ability to develop strong quality people by using best mentoring, coaching, and grooming skills with long term planning.
  • Ability to structure different levels of energy, technical knowledge, and different personalities to guide the operation and customers through issues.

, Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or finance from an accredited institution.
  • 7 minimum years leading a quality department or team.
  • 10 minimum years working in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5 minimum years auditing experience working in an ISO 9001 / AS9100 (per AS9014) environment.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Manager of Quality / Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) or Quality Engineer (CQE) designation from ASQ or other recognized quality authorities preferred.
  • General Auditor (Internal) - Four (4) audits (total twenty (20) audit days) within the past three (3) years, Aerospace Auditor (Third Party) - Four (4) years of aerospace industry experience within the past ten (10) years OR RAB Lead Auditor certification a plus.
