Position Highlights The Department of Biosystems Engineering invites applicants for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate I. This position will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems and sensors, overseeing irrigation activities, gathering plant and soil data, utilizing drones for remote sensing data acquisition, conducting laboratory analyses, performing comprehensive data analyses, and drafting publications for peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate will possess a solid grasp of irrigation engineering technologies encompassing sensors, subsurface drip irrigation, fertigation equipment, and irrigation models.

This is a year-to-year appointment, contingent upon funding and performance.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform operation and maintenance tasks for center pivot, pressurized drip, and gravity drip irrigation systems.
  • Utilize and improve irrigation models to enhance water utilization and crop yield.
  • Gather and analyze field data, including plant metrics, soil and plant samples, and soil moisture content measured with tools such as neutron moisture meters and various sensors.
  • Conduct drone flights to acquire remote sensing data.
  • Employ software like Pix4Dfields, Pix4DMapper, and others for image analysis.
  • Author and co-author papers and disseminate findings through publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Support field tours, field days, and other extension activities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Applicant must have, as of the beginning date of the appointment, a Ph.D.
  • Must have Remote Pilot in command license or obtain it after hire.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
