Job Description

Inova Fairfax Hospital is currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Registered Nurse Fellow to join our Psychiatry Observation (EmPath) unit on the day shift. This is a full-time position with a 3 x 12-hour shift schedule (7:00 am to 7:30 pm).

This is a brand new unit opening FALL 2024!

Type: Full-Time

Shift: Day Shift (3 x 12 hour shifts, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm)

The Psychiatry Observation (EmPath)Unit:

Our Psychiatry Observation or EmPath unit-short for Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment, and Healing unit-is a specialized 14-bay unit located in our modern Emergency Department. It is designed to address mental health emergencies. Unlike standard emergency departments, our EmPATH unit offers a more compassionate and therapeutic approach, delivering acute behavioral healthcare to patients aged 18 and older who are in crisis in a calm, therapeutic setting.

Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1 to 5-7

At Inova Fairfax Hospital, our inpatient units are designed to provide patients and families with safety, structure, and stabilization. Our interdisciplinary team works together to ensure the best possible care for our patients. Therapeutic group activities, including creative art therapy, are integral to our patient-centered approach. The average nurse-to-patient ratio on this unit is 6:1, ensuring that you can provide personalized care to those who need it most.

As a Registered Nurse (RN) Fellow, you will communicate effectively with patients, families, team members and medical providers. To help achieve our mission, you will create a collaborative team working environment while displaying respect for and an understanding of various clinical disciplines. Using a focused and integrated approach toward improving desired patient outcomes and patient experience of care delivery is of vital importance. Your participation in learning new knowledge, developing new skills and meeting program objectives to be able to practice in assigned patient care delivery settings while utilizing and applying new knowledge is essential. Demonstrating s willingness to learn under the direct supervision of an experienced RN and through various other training formats is required.

Duties:

  • Performs biopsychosocial assessments on patients
  • Provides medications and treatments to patients
  • Serves as a resource for patients and families regarding medical questions
  • Develops plan of care
  • Works with the interdisciplinary team to assist adult patient to meet treatment goals
  • Reports to the Nurse Manager.

Requirements:

  • Experience Required: 1 year of Registered Nurse clinical experience
  • Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associates Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 24 months of start date.
  • Certification: BLS certification required.
  • Licensure - Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment.
  • Special Skills - Proficient in English. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to display a caring demeanor toward others. Proficient computer skills required
