The Engineering Development Manager is accountable for developing training strategies for both Engineering and Maintenance functions within Smithfield foods. This role oversees the development of existing training programs including but not limited to; Career Foundation, Bell, Amatrol, Apprenticeship and other Hybrid skilled trade programs. Standardizing training programs as well as the skill/knowledge level within the existing structures; then guides the required changes to close gaps. Presents strong leadership in executing cross functional teamwork and developing mutual trust and credibility.

This role will work with key business stake holders on developing a Vendor Management strategy for strategic partners. Align on vendor selection and equipment standardization across all Smithfield manufacturing locations

Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage on-going policies, programs, and procedures to foster understanding of and improvement in management, supervisory or employee for the Engineering group.

  • Manage situations involving policy and or program interpretation. Lead and mentor others to ensure consistent application of all programs and policies.

  • Manage the development and ongoing execution of the current Apprentice Program while expanding the program to include three additional colleges to support the production facilities

  • Partners with human resource team to ensure the apprenticeship program recruitment goals are achieved.

  • Manage the people strategy of the Apprentice Program and provide support to operations, talent acquisition and human resource teams on execution

  • Serve as a strategic advisor and change agent related to business initiatives.

  • Use business insights and engagement measures to facilitate change. *

  • Partner with HR Partners (Talent, Compensation, Benefits, etc.) to effectively provide business context as the HR Partners design, develop and implement talent related programs.

  • Partner with leaders to develop short and long-term talent strategies and goals to ensure alignment to strategic priorities. Provide meaningful guidance and insights to support planning.

  • Provide technical and professional leadership by developing, planning, and implementing Engineering's People Strategy

  • Lead the evaluation and identification of gaps & improvement opportunities with the current training programs across all plants *

  • Ensure all plants and trainers execute the standard Skilled training programs

  • Support the Engineering Excellence assessment process to ensure all training programs are up to date and consistently executed

  • Develop and Execute Vendor Management Strategy

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering, Engineering Management or related field and 5+ year's related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

  • 2+ years' demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required

  • Knowledge of different pork products and the Meat Industry, preferred.

  • Manufacturing experience in a union environment, required

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word, and SAP.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Capable of communicating and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and oral formats.

  • Written and oral communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.

  • Ability to communicate technical ideas to a non-technical audience effectively.

  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment. Must be able to travel 75% of the time.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of their team.

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

  • Responsibilities include supporting the interviewing and hiring of skilled trade employees and the training of these employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • The majority of the time is spent in an office setting outside of the production plant. The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.

  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

  • Frequently required to sit, use hands, and talk or hear.

Salary Range

$104,000.00 - $155,750.00
