Job Title: Human Resources Generalist

Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for a Human Resources Generalist. This position reports to the Senior Human Resources Director and is located in River Forest, IL.

This position supports the daily operational functions of the Human Resources (HR) department to include aiding in the talent acquisition process, facilitate the onboarding experience and new hire orientation for new employees, and leads in the student worker, graduate assistant, and temporary employment needs. This position is responsible for administering policies relating to all phases of HR activity. This position is responsible for providing general administrative support for the department to include file maintenance, HRIS entry, and acting as the primary contact for in person visitors and the general HR email and phone line.

Responsibilities/Duties:
Recruitment & Onboarding
  • Considered subject matter expert on the applicant tracking system (ATS); maintains postings and system.
  • Coordinates and ensures accuracy and consistency of job description and job posting documents; posts openings to CUC website and job boards; Assists hiring managers with job descriptions and job postings.
  • Schedules interviews as needed.
  • Performs background checks on search finalists; reviews and gives background checks to Senior Director for review as needed.
  • Coordinates first day information and experience for new hires, assist with process as needed.
  • Update org charts and ensure current charts are on CUConnect.
Student, Graduate Assistant, and Temporary Employment
  • Maintains portal and web listings for open student positions.
  • Responsible for the Graduate Assistant and Student Worker hiring process.
  • Answer questions regarding student employment wage administration, pay dates and other employment needs. Communicate with stakeholders regarding wage administration and student employment practices as needed.
  • Partner with colleagues to host informational tables for student employment at campus events.
  • Supports in the adjunct hiring process.
Administrative Support
  • Serve as primary contact for in-office visitors.
  • Monitor the general HR email inbox and phone number.
  • Perform data entry for Banner and other programs.
  • Receives and sorts department mail.
  • Process personnel related requests to include but not limited to verifications of employment, change of address, tax forms, direct deposit forms, wage garnishments.
  • Monitors employment and compliance posters and notices on campus and online.
  • Coordinates and assembles the department newsletter monthly.
HR Operations
  • Assist with HR events to include but not limited to scheduling needs, coordination with speakers/vendors, prepare presentation materials, send invites, and maintain attendee list, ordering refreshments and other services as needed.
  • Assist with events conducted by HR, CUC, Concordia Plans, and other vendors.
  • Monitor and assist the Senior Director with required compliance training.
  • Assist with the performance review cycle. Coordinate, monitor, and track the 90-day reviews.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Working understanding of human resource principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Working understanding of employment-related law and regulations, HR best practices, and

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Problem solver and critical thinker with ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education and Concordia University Chicago

Minimum Experience:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field.
At least three years' experience in human resources.

Preferred:
SHRM-CP or HRCI-PHR credential preferred.
Ellucian Banner experience preferred.
