Located on the 11th floor at the Adult Outpatient Pavilion, our Multispecialty Surgery Clinic specializes in adult care working with multiple providers for GI Bariatric, Colon & Rectal, and Trauma Services. As a multispecialty clinic we provide care for all surgery patients for post-op, follow-up and continued care. New patient consults are referred to our specialty surgeons and multiple procedures are performed in our clinics so we are constantly educating and working alongside our patients for a wide range of surgeries. As an RN on our team, you will expand your nursing skills by caring for a range of surgical patients with various pre and post-op needs. Our clinic hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with some flexibility.

The Registered Nurse (RN) at VCU Health plays a critical role in providing high-quality patient care across outpatient wound care clinics. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for patients under the supervision of the healthcare team. This position requires a compassionate and skilled professional committed to delivering excellent patient outcomes and upholding VCU Health's standards of care.

Key Responsibilities:

* Assessment of wounds, application of complex dressings, patient education, case management
Patient Assessment and Care Planning:
* Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to identify health needs and formulate individualized care plans.
* Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop, implement, and revise care plans based on patient conditions and responses.
Clinical Nursing Practices:
* Administer medications, treatments, and procedures following established protocols and guidelines.
* Monitor and record patient vital signs, symptoms, and reactions to treatments, and report any deviations to the healthcare team.
Communication and Collaboration:
* Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure coordinated and patient-centered care.
* Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
* Communicate with home health organizations and durable medical equipment companies when performing duties of case management.
Patient Education:
* Provide education to patients and their families on disease management, treatment plans, and preventive care.
* Provide information to patients to improve understanding and adherence to prescribed medications, treatments, and follow-up care.
Documentation:
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including assessments, care plans, and interventions, in compliance with regulatory standards in electronic medical record (Epic).
Quality Improvement:
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety, satisfaction, and overall healthcare delivery.
* Stay abreast of best practices, evidence-based guidelines, and changes in healthcare policies.
Professional Development:
* Engage in continuous learning and professional development activities to stay current with advancements in nursing practice.
* Adhere to VCU Health's policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations.
* Work toward achieving board certification in wound management.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
* Current and valid RN license in the state of Virginia or eligible for licensure in the state of Virginia.
* CPR certification and any additional certifications required for the specific unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS).
* Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Experience:
* Previous nursing experience preferred but not mandatory for entry-level positions.
* Wound care certification preferred, not required, but willing to complete within four years.
* Familiarity with electronic health record systems.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:

Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:

Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent

Experience REQUIRED:

Clin I: N/A

Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience

Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience

Experience PREFERRED:

Clin I: Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice

Clin II, Clin III: Academic Health Care Experience; Experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice

Education/training REQUIRED:

Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state's Board of Nursing.

All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date unless grandfathered under previous requirements.

Education/training PREFERRED:

Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program

Clin III: Certification in specialty area

Independent action(s) required:

Follows documented physician/licensed independent provider orders.

Practices within the boundaries of the regulations governing the practice of nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Practice is guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national nursing practice standards.

All practice is guided by and follows the VCUHS policies and procedures and established practice.

Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable):

Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Organizes work and delegates and supervises others (RN's, LPN's, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, etc.) in carrying out assignments.
