Job Description
Press Brake Operator - Steel America
Purpose:
Steel America, a division of Colonna's Shipyard, is seeking an experienced Press Brake Operator to support operations in the Fabrication Shop at our site in Norfolk, VA.
The Press Brake Operator will use a press brake to bend, shape, cut, and manipulate sheet metal and metal plates.
Job Description:
- Operates a press brake to manufacture tools, equipment, and other components from sheet metal or metal plates.
- Prepares, sets up, and adjusts press brake as required by product plans and production schedules.
- Ensures that there are sufficient raw materials available.
- Measures and aligns materials to be used.
- Inspects products, evaluating finished pieces for compliance with quality standards and specifications.
- Performs routine maintenance on the press brake.
- Maintains a clean work area.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have a HS diploma (or equivalent) and at least two (2) years of experience operating a Press Brake in a steel service center or fabrication environment.
- Must be able to read, interpret, and follow product plans, blueprints, and/or drawings.
- Must demonstrate basic levels of mathematical, reading, writing and communication skills necessary to successfully accomplish the job requirements as outlined above.
- Must be able to work all shifts, overtime, and weekends.
- Must be a steady, reliable worker.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience operating CNC automatic beam cutting machines preferred.
- CNC Programming experience preferred.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs.
- Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
- Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions.
- Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
- Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts.
- While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
- Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
- Frequent use of respirator.
