GENERAL FUNCTION: The Special Assets Senior Portfolio Manager is a key member of the "coverage team", directly accountable for managing a portfolio consisting of larger, highly complex, stressed banking relationships

through their review of updated financial statements, proactive monitoring, and interaction with the Credit Analysts and SAG Relationship Managers. The Special Assets Senior Portfolio Manager will typically support a portfolio in the

Vertical group, or in the Upper Middle Market group within the Regions, and is expected to be a contributing member of the deal team, managing very complex work out strategies and multiple large corporate and specialty business

portfolio tasks. This candidate would be expected to be intimately involved in making recommendations on appropriate credit structures, pricing and making certain that workout strategies are consistent with Bancorp credit and risk policy, etc. Additionally, the Senior PM will develop knowledge of the specifics related to the clients being supported, including unique credit arrangements and complexities within the industry. The Senior PM will interact with clients to understand their current performance and proactively identify potential risks at the account and portfolio level. Directly accountable for managing a portfolio of accounts through their review of updated financial statements, proactive monitoring and interaction with Credit Officer, Relationship Team as well.

Responsible for completion of approval memos for their assigned portfolios, with well thought out recommendations and credit analysis. The PM IV will interact with internal and external clients, consultants and legal counsel in an

effort to proactively understand their goals, their current performance, and their needs. They will also have a detailed understanding of the bankruptcy process and how it effects the work out strategy. The PM IV uses this client knowledge as well as the help of the CO and SCO to assess the appropriateness of existing strategies and to contribute to the formulation of future strategies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accountable for managing a portfolio of highly complex accounts in support of the Special Assets Director, Team Lead, and/or Workout Officers, relying on deep experience with credit analysis, loan review and/or banking industry.
  • Client contact with some of the most difficult credit relationships, in sometimes confrontational situations.
  • Undertake analysis of industries and relevant peer groups within them to determine key industry drivers and how these affect individual market participants. Such analysis to be factored into client specific or industry wide credit reports.
  • Ability to affectively interact with outside legal counsel and consultants.
  • Managing the credit transactions process; from the approval process and communicating with various involved groups (e.g. different product groups on a complex transaction) through to arranging for processing of details and changes into the bank's own internal systems.
  • Preparation, review and negotiation of documentation related to transactions, such as loan documents, forbearance agreements, guarantees, and security documents.
  • Participation in the structuring of work out strategies, including negotiations with potential and existing clients.
  • Evaluation, booking and management of collateral relating to loans, etc.
  • Monitoring the ongoing business activities and financial performance of existing clients, including financial covenant monitoring.
  • Implementation of risk management and compliance procedures in accordance with Bank requirements and corporate policies.
  • Contribute to development of the bank's credit evaluation methodology.
  • Maintain appropriate client records and an archive of the bank's industry wide and client specific credit work.
  • Deals with large credit exposures, most complex loans, difficult foreign exchange, interest rateand commodity derivatives.
  • Display of proper Emotional Intelligence under pressure of work out situations.
  • Following credit policy, structures and underwrites commercial loans or makes a recommendation to the appropriate level of credit administration.
  • Services portfolio and outside contractors.
  • Manages commercial portfolio risk on an ongoing basis by monitoring customer credit-worthiness, adherence to contract loan terms and general business conditions.
  • Mentor Credit Analysts and more Junior Portfolio Managers

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience. Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics preferred.
  • Eight or more years credit experience in commercial banking or finance industry or advanced degree with five or more years of business related experience.
  • Highly professional credit and risk analysis skills.
  • Professional presence. Able to communicate effectively with clients, consultants, bank group members, and internal bank partners.
  • Expertise in financial and risk analysis, and effective problem solving
  • Experience managing an advanced commercial client portfolio with a great deal of complexity. Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Clear and articulate oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong Emotional Intelligence under pressure.
  • Exhibit teamwork.
  • Results oriented - demonstrated ability to accomplish objectives in a specified timeframe.
  • Proficient in basic software applications such Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with bankruptcy law.
  • Familiarity with the bank's internal applications a plus.

This position can sit anywhere within the Fifth Third Bank Footprint.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, temperature and the like.
  • Extended viewing of a CRT screen.
  • Minimal Travel Required.
