Job Description
Inserso is seeking to hire a System Engineer to support our Department of Justice (DOJ) customer in Washington, DC. This position provides Tier 3 support for the operations, maintenance, and administration of the Linux systems especially Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7/8/9 for physical, virtual (VMWare vSphere & vCenter), and cloud (AWS & Azure) environments.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage all aspects of Linux infrastructure to include monitoring, account creation, group policy, security, and other tasks such as reviewing system and application logs, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources.
  • Install, secure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7/8/9 systems.
  • Ensure security compliance for all RHEL server-based systems such as Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) and Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) compliance.
  • Administer web services in multiple Linux Server environments (RHEL 7/8/9).
  • Develop and monitor policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
  • Set up administrator and service accounts, maintain system documentation, tune system performance, install system wide software, and allocate mass storage space.
  • Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of IT systems such as LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) stacks.
  • Provide Linux support to VMware, and AWS server instances..
  • Provide escalation and communication support to agency management and internal customers.
  • Provide incident and problem identification, diagnosis, dispatch, and resolution support.
  • Manage Linux system infrastructure and any processes related to these systems.
  • Troubleshoot & escalate tickets to appropriate internal teams, or vendor, as required.
  • Provide After Action Reports and or lessons learned following major outages.
  • Evaluate performance and recommend changes to reduce the types of incidents and problems impacting the daily operations of the Linux Infrastructure.
  • Ensure the change management procedures are followed across the enterprise.
  • Provide reports to management and other groups.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.
  • Communicate with end users via IM, phone call or email as necessary.
  • Experience deploying, maintaining, troubleshooting Linux especially RHEL 7/8/9 virtual and physical instances.
  • Enterprise application packaging and deployment using standard endpoint management tools.
Required Skills/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a DOJ OJP T2 Public Trust background check.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience providing UNIX/Linux System Administration or similar support.
  • Experience apply and maintain OS/Security patches to RHEL systems using rpm, yum, Satellite server.
  • Understanding/troubleshooting of universal network services (DNS, NTP, NFS, HTPP/HTTPS, Forward/Reverse Proxy such as Nginx/Squid, Sendmail/Postfix and configuration management tool such as Ansible).
  • Experience with cron jobs and Shell scripts for automating administration tasks.
  • Have knowledge of Virtualization in VMware, AWS and Windows environments.
  • Have ability to lead troubleshooting for issues both known and unknown across all manner of applications/products to include vendor support if required.
  • Have ability to provide technical recommendations to solve short- and long-term issues.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in all aspects of Linux performance and debugging tools (e.g., top, vmstat, netstat, lsof, iptables, nmap, tcpdump, wireshark).
  • Red Hat Linux System Administration certification.
  • Shell scripts expertise.
  • Have basic understanding of IT Security Standards, including the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
  • Have understanding of AWS solution using EC2, S3, RDS, EBS, Elastic Load Balancer, Auto scaling.
  • Experience using system monitoring tools, such as Splunk and AWS native monitoring tools.
  • Experience with PKI infrastructure and certificate-based access.
  • Experience using ITSM ticketing systems, such as ServiceNow.
Physical and/or Mental Qualifications:
  • Effectively communicate with customers, stakeholders, and technical specialists.
  • This work requires that an individual ascend/descend a ladder, position themselves to access computer and related equipment connections, and be able to transport objects or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
