Job Description

The Laborer A is an entry level position. This position will initially be responsible to be an active participant in a high performance team. As chemical operator positions become open you will be required to bid on these openings. As a chemical operator you will workin an active chemical manufacturing environment between a control room, outside process equipment area and warehouse/ charging area; works rotating shifts, Ambient environmental conditions apply (rain, cold, heat, etc); Frequently traverses steps and walks across uneven surfaces; May bend, squat or kneel periodically during day, lifts loads of up to 50 lbs, exerts force by pushing and pulling while using grip strength; required to wear special PPE when unloading chemicals including impervious chemical suit and respirator with chemical boots and gloves.

Other role responsibilities:

  • Read and understand procedures, policies and daily documents
  • Record data carefully and completely in both written and electronic formats
  • Communicate accurately, precisely, timely and completely
  • Make accurate mathematical calculations in support or production activities
  • Investigate/ troubleshoot issues within the area (equipment, process, etc.)
  • Check all paperwork for completeness and accuracy
  • Maintain accurate file system for area records
  • Maintain compliance to safety, environmental and shippingregulations
  • Participate on plant or inter-plant teams as requested
  • Maintain safety and order of work area through daily housekeeping activities
  • Manage all chemicals and waste (hazardous and nonhazardous) in accordance to RCRA regulation and the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard.
  • Participate in investigation of area concerns as needed
  • Participate as a high performance team member; attend meetings as necessary.

Manufacturing:

  • Monitor the process control computer during production
  • Operate manual valves to facilitate material transfers
  • Operate forklift
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (respirator, chemical suit, boots, hardhat, face shield and gloves as required by task)

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Manufacturing experience required.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing related equipment, safe chemical handling/ packaging, ability to safely operate a powered industrial truck.
  • Computer Skills (MS word, Excel, Lotus notes, SAP)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, a sense of urgency with the ability to prioritize work, and the mind-set for safety and attention to detail. Good Teamwork skills. Ability to perform manual labor including walking up and down stairs, climbing on and off forklift, crouching to make tie in for rail car unloading and lifting up to 50 lbs.
