Department: Litigation

Ballard Spahr, a national law firm with 15 offices across the United States has an excellent opportunity available for an experienced Bankruptcy Paralegal for our Wilmington, Delaware office. Our Paralegal will work with lawyers both inside and outside the department to provide the highest quality of legal assistance to our clients.

The selected individual will:

  • Attend to finalizing and filing pleadings in Chapter 11 cases in the Delaware Bankruptcy Court and bankruptcy courts in other districts.

  • Ensure those documents comply with local bankruptcy rules and customs.

  • Prepare and organize hearing binders, exhibits, and proposed orders.

  • Draft fee applications, certifications of counsel, certificates of service, notices, pro hac vice motions, and hearing agendas.

  • Communicate with the court regarding various matters.

  • Assist legal teams in preparing for court hearings.

  • Prepare drafts of other legal documents and correspondence for attorney review.

  • Communicate with attorneys, clients, and other bankruptcy professionals on various bankruptcy matters.

The ideal candidate will possess a mastery of technical and administrative skills, assume responsibility with minimal supervision, exercise initiative and judgment to make decisions within the scope of their assigned authority, work individually and as part of a team, practice collaboration with firm employees in all offices and work beyond standard work hours as needed. Must have advanced proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet searching as well as experience working with a document management system.

Requirements include a bachelor's degree and/or paralegal certificate and 3-5 years of law firm experience in Chapter 11 bankruptcy work; additional years of experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree will be considered. Must have knowledge of Delaware / Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure and associated filing requirements to assist with the formatting and filing of electronic and paper court submissions. The ability to work beyond standard work hours is required to perform the essential functions of this position.
