Job Description

The Graduate Admissions and Academic Progress Advisor provides academic program support for the Graduate School for graduate applications and academic progress. Responsibilities include advising prospective and current graduate students; serving as a liaison with academic units; interpreting and applying Graduate School and university policies; working with confidential student information; and providing general office support through telephone, email and in person consultations.

Required Qualifications

Experience providing programmatic support in an academic or professional office setting; experience providing academic advising to students; experience handling confidential information; experience providing quality customer service; proficiency with current office computer software such as email, Microsoft Word, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with large relational databases such as Banner; experience analyzing and interpreting Virginia Tech policies and procedures; experience working with graduate students; experience working with international students; higher education employment experience or coursework.
