Job/Internship Description

General Summary

This Intern assignment will be responsible for supporting the research and development efforts of the Systems Development department. The role requires a highly motivated individual that will assist in the design of software and hardware in experimental settings. The intern will work under close supervision of a more experienced engineer or manager. Interns are assigned to business related projects.

Key Responsibilities

Support the engineering team in the following ways:

  • Develop interfaces between hardware and software.
  • Maintain inventory of items related to research and development efforts.
  • Prepare specifications for purchase of components and equipment.
  • Test electrical hardware, including circuit boards.
  • Design, implement, and maintain electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems.
  • Prepare and study technical drawings and specifications of electrical systems.
  • Interface with engineers and scientists of varying disciplines during the design of new systems.
  • Maintains knowledge of engineering discipline through familiarity with current literature
  • Observes appropriate safety and study requirements by reading, understanding, and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP),
  • Ensures compliance to all regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Performs other duties as may be required by supervisor.

Required Experience:

Minimum Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Pursuing a Degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MATLAB, python, C, C#
  • Experience using multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to work well with others in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated to continually expand knowledge and skills related to this position.

Work Environment & Conditions

This assignment will require:

  • Working in both an office and a laboratory setting.
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE when entering the laboratory.
  • Use of a computer for extended periods of time may be necessary.
