This position provides coordination of care across disciplines for patients on the Ketogenic Diet (KD) in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. The position has direct patient care responsibilities that meet nutrition department standards and guidelines. The position works closely with clinical team members (physicians, pharmacists, clinical nurses and administrative staff) to ensure comprehensive high-quality care for these patients. This position is a catalyst for developing and implementing program activities and standards, works directly with other departments (i. e. case management, social work, child life and information technology) to problem solve and improve outcomes and is a resource to others on the team for information about current practice. The position is responsible for quality management reports and outcome monitors, and oversees the care given by other pediatric dietitians who provide nutrition care to KD patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Master's Degree in Nutrition or practice-related discipline (ex. MS, MPH, MBA, MEd.)

2. Must possess at least one professionally recognized specialty board certification related to pediatric nutrition practice (ex. CSP, CNSC, CSR, CDE) Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (R.D. or R.D.N.) credentialed by the Commission on Dietic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic

EXPERIENCE:

3. Five (5) years of practice experience in pediatric nutrition in a healthcare setting. Some of this experience must be working with patients on the Ketogenic Diet

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Oversee the building and operationalizing of the Ketogenic Diet service for the system.

2. Deliver and oversee quality nutrition care to assigned patient population with established criteria. Assesses and documents patient nutritional status and care plans. Provides appropriate nutrition education and counseling based on patient/family learning needs and abilities.

3. Evaluates staff nutrition care plans for the effectiveness and recommends changes as needed. Uses professional judgement to adapt and apply guidelines, protocols, and professional standards of care to the new and changing needs of patients. Coordinates activities of the clinical nutrition area to ensure that the nutritional needs of patients and the standards of nutritional care are maintained by completing monthly chart reviews.

4. Participates in quality assurance monitoring and reporting for departmental performance improvement meetings. Identifies, participates and leads quality process improvements and actively endorses evidence-based practices. May participate in practice specific research to enhance programming.
5. Schedule and coordinate daily work-flow. Coordinates, develops and supervises daily staffing assignments and levels. Provides leadership, training, coaching and mentorship to staff. Assists with performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.

6. Acts as a resource to all hospital staff and provides direction regarding nutrition needs for specific patient populations. Collaborates with food service staff, as well as medical, nursing, and allied health staff to maintain interdepartmental communication.

7. Develops, revises, and implements departmental and interdepartmental policies and procedures and performance improvement initiatives. Plans and coordinates nutrition services goals and objectives.

1. Majority of work is performed in an office setting, classroom, or meeting room. Some work will occur in patient care areas. Occasional community speaking.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Strong working knowledge and experience with current medical nutritional therapy over a broad spectrum of conditions/disorders. This may include but is not limited to TPN, infant and pediatric enteral formulas, critical care, GI disorders, cardiac, diabetes, renal, pulmonary, cystic fibrosis, prematurity and weigh management/growth concerns/disorders for children ages birth to 18 years of age.

2. Strong Verbal, Non-verbal and written communication skills.
