Reporting to the Associate Director of Operations, this position is responsible for the day-to-day administration of federal, university, and private loan programs. This position is also responsible for transfer monitoring activities including eligibility and prevention of overawards. This position also audits and reviews students flagged for Unusual Enrollment History. The person holding this position will maintain current knowledge relevant to position responsibilities. They participate in developing and implementing short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, operating procedures, and programs and services; monitor and evaluate overall effectiveness of their area of responsibility and develop and implement changes required for improvement. Additionally, this position will manage and supervise the day-to-day activities of financial aid specialists, supporting them and holding them accountable by assessing knowledge of program responsibilities, auditing work, and ensuring deadlines are met.
As a member of the Financial Aid team at Virginia Tech there are other responsibilities that are shared across the office. While this position will not be solely responsible for these items, they will share in their successful completion. This position shares responsibility for the comprehensive management of financial aid eligibility at Virginia Tech, including verification, ISIR review, and federal, state, and institutional grant fund management. This position also shares responsibility to ensure daily and long-term processing goals are met. The incumbent is instrumental in developing and achieving operational goals for the successful delivery of federal, state, and institutional financial aid. This position works with other Assistant Directors in the Operations area to coordinate and manage staff workload and provide feedback to staff and the Leadership team. They analyze data, research applicable regulations and best practices, provide recommendations to the Leadership team and develop, provides, and documents training of staff on processing functions. They share responsibility to ensure compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations, and adherence to university policies. They will communicate accurately, effectively, and professionally with students, parents, and campus constituents and counsel the same through financial aid processes. This position will conduct recruitment, training, supervision, professional development, and evaluation of assigned personnel. They will assist the Leadership team with special projects, as needed, serve on university committees, as assigned, and perform other duties as assigned, including engaging in outreach to high schools, students, parents, and others, as appropriate, regarding financial aid options.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree and related work experience and training
* Experience in student financial aid, specifically Title IV regulations
* Experience working in COD, CPS, NSLDS, and financial aid processing systems
* Ability to manage a complex, high-volume operation with a high degree of accuracy
* Supervisory experience
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office products

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's degree with significant related work experience
* High level knowledge of student loan regulations. Specifically, must have a strong command 34CFR 668.32; 668.161 .167, 674, 685
* High level working knowledge of student eligibility and verification requirements
* Demonstrated progressive work experience in the administration of federal and state financial aid programs
