Job Description

Dr. Debswapna Bhattacharya's research group in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech (https://people.cs.vt.edu/dbhattacharya/) seeks to recruit multiple postdoctoral associates to develop novel deep learning and data-driven methods and algorithms for computational modeling of molecular structures.

Postdoctoral associates are eligible for up to two years of support with competitive salary and benefits package, generously supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Maximizing Investigator's Research Award. All reappointments are dependent upon a satisfactory progress review and continued funding.

The Bhattacharya group works at the intersection of computational biology and applied machine learning with a particular focus on AI-powered molecular modeling. The group is also interested in applications of data science in bioinformatics. The recent projects in the group are focused on developing data-driven machine learning and optimization algorithms to elucidate complex relationships between macromolecular sequences, structures, functions, interactions, and pathways.

The specific research project will focus on advanced deep learning and data-driven method development for computational modeling and refinement of biological macromolecules. Responsibilities of the position include conducting research independently as well as in a team, communicating research with the PI and collaborators, writing manuscripts and grants, and presenting at national and international conferences.

Virginia Tech's main campus is located in Blacksburg, VA, in an area consistently ranked among the country's best places to live.
