Under the direction and leadership of the Director of Student Support Services, plans and provides for appropriate instructional programming and learning experiences for students of varied backgrounds and abilities. Provides an environment conducive to the physical, social, and emotional development of all students to ensure academic and social success. Supervises students in a variety of school settings. Communicates and interacts regularly with parents, staff, and other members of the school community. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes and growth. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning goals
Plans and implements an instructional program that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of a diverse student population
Manages pupil performance in the classroom and applies effective strategies to reinforce and/or modify student behavior and performance
Establishes learning objectives consistent with assessment of student needs and requirements of The SEED Public Charter School of Washington, D.C., and knowledge of human growth and development
Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, SEED policy, and administrative regulations
Participates in school management and shares responsibility for the total school program, attends staff meetings, and participates in professional development opportunities
Appraises his/her own effectiveness, seeks opportunities for professional growth, and demonstrates successful application of new skills and strategies in order to improve professional competence
Teaches special education classes across both self-contained and/or co-taught environments designed to support students with meeting their IEP goals, remediating deficits and supporting skills and concepts taught in the general education class
Implements Behavior Intervention Plan daily and completes relevant special education case management duties.
Collaborates with the special education team and participates in students’ special education meetings

OTHER RESPONSIBITIES:
Reviews and researches the information in student records regarding their abilities and unique needs
Writes, implements, and monitors Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals that will guide each student's instructional program based on student assessments, needs, and strengths
Serves as case manager for a cohort of students receiving special education services
Participates in the inclusion co-teaching model of instruction for students in general education classrooms
Provide specialized instruction in a self-contained classroom setting for either English or Math
Designs individual and small group instructional strategies that parallel and support the general education curriculum
Adapts and develops materials to match the special needs of each student
Evaluates and advances students in an appropriate manner based on their disability, IEP, or special learning needs
Acts as coordinator of IEP implementation and monitoring with general education staff
Documents students’ progress using data
Organizes, prepares, and leads Student Support Team meeting with staff and parents to better meet the needs of students
Supports students with developing executive functioning skills
Utilizes assistive technology tools to support students’ learning, independence, and growth
Implements students’ Behavior Intervention Plans
Completes all relevant special education documentation and paperwork including but not limited to Behavior Intervention Plan reports and quarterly IEP progress reports
Attends annual IEP meetings, Multidisciplinary check in meetings, and Manifestation Determination Review meetings
Maintains ongoing communication with parents/guardians
MININIUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in special education from an accredited college or university preferred.
Must be highly qualified to teach self-contained Math or English classes. Bachelors’ degree in Math or English or passing score for Praxis II in Math or English is required.
