Job summary We are the EC2 Shepherd team and we make deploying features to every EC2 host safe for EC2 customers and easy for EC2 developers. The services we build protect a fleet that spans 26 geographic regions across 84 availability zones, with some zones exceeding 300,000 servers, by defining deployment best practices and building tooling to support those practices, finding opportunities to work with other teams to improve detection of failure modes that will affect customers, help EC2 move faster through our full CD initiatives, and we build tooling that allows EC2 developers to focus on adding customer features instead of the mechanics of deploying software to the servers powering companies like Netflix, NASA, Expedia, Snap, and Epic games.
You will work in technologies including Java, Kotlin, React, Lambda, DynamoDB, and AWS step functions and other public AWS services and Amazon-internal tools. We don't expect you to be an expert in, or necessarily even be familiar with, all the technologies listed above.
We are dedicated to supporting you and enjoy growing your skills through one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews. We believe that good code reviews raise our code quality, grow our technical acumen, and provide opportunity to support and share knowledge with each other.
To support your career growth, we look for projects and tasks based on what will help you develop into a more well-rounded engineer and enable you to take on more complex tasks in the future.
This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. Since we value work life balance, we work to ensure our systems are fault tolerant so we don't get paged in the middle of the night or on the weekends. When we get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so we don't get paged for the same issue twice.
Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon's culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 16 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.
Our team puts a high value on work-life balance. It isn't about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it's about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives.
