The SEED Public Charter School of Washington, D.C. (SEED DC)  is the nation’s first college-preparatory, public boarding school. Our mission is to provide an outstanding, intensive educational program that prepares children, both academically and socially, for success in college and beyond.

The SEED Public Charter School of Washington, D.C. (SEED DC) opened in 1998 and currently serves approximately 250 students in grades nine through twelve in a boarding school environment. Students live on campus from Sunday evening through Friday afternoon. We offer a rigorous college preparatory curriculum which integrates a robust co-curricular program with college preparatory coursework. 
As a boarding school, SEED DC has a unique opportunity to foster learning opportunities after school and in the evenings through the student life program which provides academic support to students through structured study halls and homework centers; extracurricular activities such as dance, chess, robotics, theater, and athletics; and life skills instruction through the HALLS (Habits for Achieving Life-Long Success) curriculum. Position Overview:
The SEED Public Charter School of Washington, D.C. is seeking a Spanish Teacher with experience leading students through Spanish 1 and/or Spanish 2 coursework. In this role, the Spanish teacher will create a curriculum and classroom environment that guides students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate in Spanish. Teachers at SEED DC teach engaging lessons created from research-based, standards aligned, curriculum. These curricula aim to serve as windows and mirrors for our students to help them understand more about the world and themselves. This position will also collaborate with other instructional staff, school personnel and SEED DC’s senior leadership team to help advance SEED’s mission of supporting scholars to and through college completion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Continue to build and implement the SEED DC’s culture - establishing new routines and structures to prepare students for college completion and beyond.
  • Develop and implement a balanced and engaging Spanish curriculum that promotes understanding
  • Use a variety of teaching practices to promote engagement and motivation, student choice and accountability
  • Teach SEED DC’s curriculum in dynamic, participation-oriented classes that focus on instruction and developing skills, not on rote memorization.
  • Plan, organize, and deliver appropriate lessons for assigned area(s) of responsibility, and submit lesson plans to the Principal on an as requested basis.
  • Differentiate instruction to reach all learners
  • Implement frequent formative assessments, in addition to summative assessments and analyze student achievement data to inform and personalize instruction to meet the needs of student
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers on planning, professional development, and standards-based curriculum and common assessment design to contribute to the continuous improvement of instruction at the school
  • Assess students’ learning in a professional manner and communicate students’ progress to parents and fellow teachers to facilitate future instruction.
  • Identify special needs of students and seek additional support, as needed
  • Maintain and submit necessary records, progress reports, and grade reports
  • Participate in faculty meetings, workshops, staff development programs, and other school sponsored activities
  • Assist in general building supervision and discipline of students outside of the classroom
  • Adhere to the professional and ethical standards as outlined by SEED
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • A commitment to SEED’s mission, core values and belief that with the right resources, any child can attend college and achieve their dreams
  • 2-3 years of experience teaching Spanish at the high school level.
  • Superior written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Solid subject matter knowledge and demonstrated knowledge of the content and the methods of teaching Spanish
  • Experience working with diverse student populations in an urban setting
  • Experience with students with learning differences and ADHD is a plus.
  • Ability to connect with people from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds (including but not limited to homeless and LGBTQ youth)
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit to be able to create and implement routines and rituals to ensure student achievement
Certifications and Degrees: The starting salary for first year teachers at SEED DC is $65,000. Compensation is commensurate with experience. The benefits package also includes paid sick leave, holiday pay, a generous 403b retirement plan in addition to health, dental, vision, and life insurance.

Working Conditions
The work involves everyday risks and discomforts, which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as classrooms, offices, meeting and training rooms, etc.  The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
