OVERVIEW
The Packaging Technician operates, installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and dismantles packaging equipment and related equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitors equipment operations and preforms mechanical repairs and adjustments as necessary
- Inspects and replaces pneumatic and hydraulic hoses
- Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic malfunction(s)
- Diagnoses and repairs circuit and component issues
- Installs and dismantles packaging and related equipment
- Reports the general condition of equipment and recommends replacement when necessary to supervisor
- Responsible for:
- setup, start-up, and operation of packaging machines
- minor and major adjustments before start-up and during operation
- for completing and keeping required packaging reports, logs, and other paperwork
- requisitioning materials and parts
- preventive maintenance
- machine and work area cleanliness
- Performs other duties as may be assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to respond with troubleshooting methods under time and delivery pressure
- Must be able to work from blueprints, electronic schematic diagrams, block diagrams, layouts or other specifications both verbal and written
- Must be able to program and maintain coder system
- Must be able to perform repairs and tests on mechanical packaging equipment such as clutch assemblies, gear head motors, reduction drive units and high pressure glue pumps
- Must be able to perform minor and major adjustments to machines
- Must have basic computer skills
- Must have electrical, electronics, pneumatics, and welding skills and experience
- Must be willing to work nights, weekends, rotating shifts, holidays and overtime as needed
- Must be able to work in loud production environments
- Must be able to work in extreme temperatures
- Must be thoroughly knowledgeable of measurement and weighing systems
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have strong knowledge of packaging equipment and packaging process or mechanical aptitude
- Must have a strong focus on quality, safety and efficiency
- Must have strong knowledge of Food Safety, Regulatory, and Good Manufacturing Practices
- Must be able to work in safe and proficient manner
- Must be able to work independently as well as a team player
- Must be certified to operate a forklift and other mobile industrial equipment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs frequently
- Must be able to reach and use arms in a repetitive motion frequently
- Must be able to stand and walk constantly, bend and stoop occasionally
- Must be able to work in confined spaces
- Must be able to perform tasks wearing required PPE such as but not limited to protective footwear, clothing, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- At least two years consistent work history as a mechanic in a manufacturing environment
- High School diploma or GED is required
