Job Summary

The Department of Community Corrections is currently seeking qualified applicants to join their innovative team. This ad is for a full-time Bilingual (Spanish) Probation Officer who will serve as an Officer of the Court to supervise criminal defendants placed in the program by the Courts.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and provide a culturally competent, balanced supervision approach to the offender population, utilizing facets of both social work and law enforcement. Candidate must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, high volume, dynamic environment. Duties include supervising offenders, submitting reports, testifying in Court, administering drug tests, making referrals for substance abuse assessments/treatment, mental health assessments/treatment, domestic violence assessments/treatment, sex offender treatment; monitoring community service work, shoplifting programs; and encouraging all special conditions of the Court to be fulfilled. This position notifies the Courts and law enforcement as needed when violations of Court-ordered probation or bond conditions occur. This position requires regular attendance at Court proceedings, testifying in violation hearings and as called upon by all three of the Loudoun County Courts.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, or related field, and a minimum of two (2) years related experience in the criminal justice field. Spanish proficiency is required for this position. 

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Must be willing to supervise criminal offenders, some of whom have violent histories that may subject to electronic monitoring, to collect urine for drug testing and use breathalyzers for alcohol detection. May require occasional residential visits and community collateral contracts. Prefer that the candidate have experience working with criminally involved, substance abusing individuals and/or strong background/knowledge/education in substance abuse, addiction, mental health and appropriate services/ treatments, and an understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence. Must have strong writing skills and be able to compile facts and information into concise reports for submission to the Court. The candidate will have strong communication skills to interact with representatives from the legal community such as Commonwealth's Attorneys, law enforcement, defense attorneys, judges, and Court personnel.

VCIN certification is required; the selected candidate will obtain certification within 90 days of hire.

Must undergo and complete a criminal background check, DMV record check and pass a language proficiency test. An annual DMV record check will be required.
