Director of Community Socioeconomic Revitalization
The Director of Community Socioeconomic Revitalization plays a leading role in the design and implementation of strategies to assist host communities and regions in planning for, and recovering from, the socioeconomic impacts of nuclear power plant closure. Major Areas of Responsibility: The major areas of responsibility for the Director of Community Socioeconomic Revitalization are:
Leading outreach and intake efforts with host community stakeholders;
Detailed assessment, both qualitative and quantitative, of the socioeconomic relationships between the nuclear power plant and its host community / region;
Guidance in the development of community economic development and revitalization plans;, and,
Education and outreach to the broad stakeholder community through conference presentations, published works, etc.
Specific Responsibilities of the Job:
Leading outreach and intake efforts with host community stakeholders
Develop information needs
Canvas and identify key stakeholders for the intake process
Develop strategic questions and the appropriate interview methodology
Engage with host community stakeholders via interviews (electronic or face-to-face where practical)
Develop sufficient trust between the host community stakeholder and the service provider
Detailed assessment, both qualitative and quantitative, of the socioeconomic relationships between the nuclear power plant and its host community / region
Ascertain the general nature of the socioeconomic relationship between the nuclear power plant and host community and the degree to which this relationship is appreciated by the host community
Preliminary identification of gaps in the nature and extent of this relationship and recommendation of strategies to acquire the needed information
Summarize interview results and findings for internal planning and service provision
Guidance to host communities in the development of community economic development and revitalization plans
Work collaboratively with the host community on the creation of community economic development and revitalization plans
Assist host community in strategic planning, goal setting, performance objectives, success metrics and implementation strategies
Support preparation of applications for various local, state and federal funding opportunities
Education and outreach to the broad stakeholder community through conference presentations, published works, etc.
Development of presentations, white papers, conference papers and journal articles where appropriate to expand the collective understanding of the socioeconomic impacts of nuclear power plant closures
Presentation of this learning through participation in conferences, webinars, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Broad knowledge and experience in:
Interpersonal communication, working constructively in a cross functional and multidisciplinary team
Economic development, community planning, community
Report writing and data analysis
Above average skills in:
Mediation and facilitation skills in multi-stakeholder environments
Brownfields assessment, remediation and redevelopment
Excellent skills in:
Socioeconomic impact assessment;
A proven ability to constructively engage with communities in all phase of facility-closure transition
Education and Experience
Education: Master’s degree in Urban and or Regional Planning plus 20-years+ of progressively responsible professional experience
Specialized training in: Economic development planning and community revitalization in the wake of closure of large-scale energy infrastructure installations
Active affiliations: American Planning Association
