Job Description

Client Insights Principal located onsite at a Beer client in Chicago (Loop).
Role Overview:

The Client Insights Principal is a high-profile role within the company and our client organization. In this position, you will lead a high performance team in developing and using IRI's tools to identify and address a broad spectrum of key marketing issues including new product launches, line extensions, trade spending, pricing, and retail execution.

The Client Insights Principal serves as a passionate advocate for the client in advancing solutions that will best build the client's long-term business. While exceeding revenue targets is important, success is equally measured by the ability to create indispensable, long-term, solution-focused consultative partnerships.

Responsibilities:

The Client Insights Principal will leverage data and strong analytic capabilities to uncover impactful insights, and inform business strategies and actions that drive client performance. You will escort the client through processes necessary to ensure their continued success. You will also promote, develop and deliver in partnership with HQ subject experts analytics-based syndicated and custom business solutions. While foundational systems are established, you will make calls as to when and how to customize solutions to fit unique client business issues, and will also be charged with recommending long term changes to methodology and approach.

At your disposal will be IRI's unparalleled Liquid Data platform and complete access to a constantly expanding ecosystem of data, the world's largest set of data related to household level consumer behavior. Data includes proprietary access to POS, FSP, Rentrak, Household Panel, Experian, Kantar Retail, and comScore among other data assets. As a Client Insights, Principal you will be a leader in developing and using IRI's tools to identify and address a broad spectrum of key marketing issues including new product launches, line extensions, trade spending, pricing, and retail execution.

While activities will vary, the CI Principal can expect to spend their time on industry thought leadership, business solutions definition, business development, project management, cross-functional team leadership, problem-solving, and innovation. As we gain client adoption of our business solutions, the CI Principal will work fluidly at all levels up to the practice leadership and spend more time acting as a liaison and customer advocate with the IRI Product Management, Strategic Analytics, Consumer & Shopper, Media Solutions, In-store Solutions and Technology teams.

This leader oversees a team of 12-15. As client investment grows the team may grow accordingly to include resources that can support business insights and perspectives, and custom solution development.

To be successful as a Client Insights Principal you must possess and be able to execute upon five key skill sets:

Business Insights and Consulting: Provide clear, deep perceptions and recommendations regarding decisions, situations and business benefits:

  • Links industry trends and global factors to deliver cross functional projects and insights that address C-level issues in new and innovative ways
  • Routinely delivers ad hoc cross-functional recommendations to client for improved client business results
  • Remains in tune with external business climate-identifies trends and their business impact early
  • Informed on Business Insights and Analytics best practices, and leverages learning to find new insight opportunities that inform growth actions
  • Ability to synthesize, distill and reconcile key finds from complex sets of information. Can further lead team to leverage data and analysis to make concise and compelling recommendations to clients

Innovation: Contribute to the development and creation of new or enhanced methods, products and/or services; approach job function with original and progressive thinking in order to improve processes, methods, systems and services:

  • Understands and communicates IRI brand and strategic vision
  • Drive transformation at the client while accelerating the growth and penetration of IRI
  • Develops better, faster, and cost effective ways to get business results. Proposes new approaches and methods

Client Management and Value: Understand economics of IRI and the client to effectively manage client projects and relationships:

  • Build and maintain support and trust with the client; act as a trusted advisor to help client balance achievement of short- and long-term goals

  • Create client engagement at all levels from market research and development to brand, sales and the c-suite team

  • Manages one or several larger teams with direct and indirect reports

Requirements/Qualifications: In addition to the above skills set, the ideal candidate must possess some combination of the following:

  • 12+ progressive years of experience
  • Beer experience required; Wine & Spirits experience preferred
  • Marketing and sales with a premier Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) company preferred
  • Previous success leading a high profile, cross functional client team
  • Experience with a premier consulting firm driving "C" level engagements across the broad spectrum of CPG core processes including strategy, consumer management, and product development, among many others
  • Knowledge of web and database application technologies that can be used to meet customer needs
  • Management of a fully integrated P&L in either a standalone company, a large division or practice
  • Innovative yet practical, non-traditional analytic approach to problem identification, resolution and implementation
  • Proven experience and success driving revenue growth through innovation
  • Ability to translate vision articulated by stakeholders into solutions
  • Proven ability to maintain sharp focus amidst multiple priorities; keen ability to prioritize and manage time/teams/projects.
  • Strong listening and needs assessment skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit; the drive to build and grow a dynamic and vibrant business/practice area
