The Big Picture:

Do you have the aptitude to anticipate problems, critical issues and opportunities as they arise? Are you capable of problem solving and generating creative solutions?

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced operating group quality director to strategically manage quality within the Data Center group and ensuring the system is fully implemented and operating in accordance with group and company requirements. Strong communication skills are necessary as you will interact with a staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment. Your ability to remain flexible, inventive, dedicated, and efficient with a high level of integrity and confidentiality is vital to your success in this role.

What will you be doing?

Leads People

  • Lead operating group culture towards continuous improvement
  • Oversee and serve as a resource for quality managers in the group
  • Lead the group’s Quality Leadership Team.
  • Foster strong teamwork orientation and be a resource for valuing and promoting diversity
  • Build strong cross-cultural relationships and influence others internally and externally at all levels of the organization and resolve cross-cultural conflict in a culturally appropriate way

Drives Business Results

  • Lead operating group quality assessments and quality assurance means and methods
  • Lead the vision, definition, implementation, and management of the quality system for the group to ensure alignment with the company’s quality system, objectives, and goals.
  • Lead and manage the group’s training on the quality system and processes for all team members.
  • Lead setting the standards for and monitoring group quality performance. Lead group wide dashboard and quality data collection, reporting, and analysis.
  • Establish and lead quality initiatives for the group
  • Oversee the group’s quality control means and methods.
  • Lead the group’s identification, documentation, analysis and corrective action system for quality issues/events including call back and warranty issues.
  • Oversee the group’s quality event reporting, analysis, and preventative actions.

Develops Talent

  • Develop leaders through active career sponsorship and provide the right responsibilities and work assignments to cultivate growth and development.
  • Support and encourage team member career learning and development
  • Coach and mentor the project teams
  • Actively seek self-development through feedback, new knowledge and opportunities for personal growth and development
  • Assist in identifying, hiring, training, mentoring, evaluating, and promoting other quality professionals in the group.

Champions Customer Service

  • Discuss and resolve technical issues with customers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Work with Operating Group Leadership, quality staff, PMs, and superintendents to resolve issues.
  • Ensure teams have the resources and support to provide far superior service

Builds for the Future

  • Ensure the group follows standard work (Best Practices and/or Integrated Work Instructions).
  • Organize and manage the work of process stewards and technical experts within the group as it relates to Best Practices. Act as the operating group’s project steward for the quality division.
  • Identify opportunities for performance improvement and process redesign
  • Achieve consistent outstanding results
  • Take care of and properly use company resources to ensure perpetuation of the organization for future generations
  • Develop strategies to address underutilization and/or inclusiveness
  • Identify opportunities to enhance margin and/or minimize risk on projects through means-and-methods or material selection.

Qualifications
How will you succeed?
  • B.S. or B.A. degree (engineering or construction management preferred) or equivalent experience required, Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience within the design, engineering and construction industry as a lead quality manager.
  • Experience working in an environment where one or more of the following Quality Systems were employed: Lean/Kaizen, ISO 9000, Malcolm Baldrige.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a Design/Build environment

Must travel 40%
