Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP seeks a highly qualified IP Docket Manager for its Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, Atlanta, Winston-Salem, Charlotte or Raleigh office. The IP Docket Manager will report directly to the IP Administrator and will supervise, review work and create best practices for the IP Docket Department. Travel is required in this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise IP Docket Technicians and outsourced docket team
  • Coordinate daily workflow within the Docket Department
  • Coordinate and approve Docket Technicians' schedules, vacations and overtime
  • Motivate, mentor and train existing and new Docket Technicians
  • Ensure that all tasks are being handled in a timely manner and in accordance with established procedure
  • Respond to IP attorneys and staff regarding questions, suggestions and/or concerns
  • Interview, assist in hiring and orient new Docket Technicians
  • Perform "Second Eye" and "quality control" of docketed entries
  • Perform and/or "Second Eye" File Intakes; perform on-site audits, which may involve travel
  • Develop training manuals and best practices for the IP Docket Department
  • Oversee management of the docketing software database, including changes and updates
  • Participate in general problem solving
  • Oversee reconciliation of daily docket
  • Provide high level analytical assistance regarding changes in laws and procedural updates
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

IP Paralegal Certificate (or equivalent experience), an associate level business degree or equivalent years of experience, 5+ years in docket management positions, and 8+ years of hands-on experience in IP docketing.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily, with attention to detail. Excellent client service is expected. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment when solving problems
  • Extensive knowledge of Patent and Trademark prosecution, both foreign and domestic
  • Strong management/supervisory experience, be highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Experience with IP docket software, experience with CPi is a plus
  • Proficient-to-expert in the use of PTO web site navigation, MS Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
  • Ability to communicate constructive, corrective feedback to subordinates in a positive manner
