Job Description:
Technical Director (TD) - Sr. Manager, Systems Engineering - for a large, complex ground-based processing system is the focal point for major initiatives developed through advanced studies with the Customer. The TD analyzes cross-functional program technical implementation in order to assure consistent and sound technical processes across the program. The TD’s office also reviews technical implementations to assure solutions consistent with program objectives and leads technical assessments and provides direction for areas of special program interest. This requisition is for an individual with an extensive technical background in space and ground-based systems serving in various key technical leadership roles that span the development lifecycle, such as chief architect, chief engineer, and system engineer manager.
This position is located in Reston, VA.
Responsibilities:

Ensure the technical integrity of the enterprise

Provide leadership and direction for technical activities, balancing program technical, cost and schedule requirements

Ensure the requirements baseline reflects customer needs and future direction
-
Work with the customer to develop strategic plans for the future
-
Oversee and direct a team to develop management and technical solution
-
Conduct System wide CAIV studies for future developments
-
Oversee an industry based team utilizing the best talent across corporations
-
Manage and direct Advanced Studies initiatives for new developments
-
Lead the establishment of consistent and sound technical processes across the program, including Decision Making, Operations and Maintenance

Approve program-wide cross-functional technical solutions

Interactive participation in program readiness reviews, program level reviews

Review and approve architecture, requirements, analysis and design to assure consistent program wide, cross functional solutions

Lead Architecture and Program and System-level Risk Management
Basic Qualifications - Required Experience, Skills:
- BS degree, or higher, in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Physics or a related engineering field, plus 12 or more years of applicable work experience
- At least 10 years experience as technical lead of major/complex development for space and ground-based systems
- Experience serving in key technical leadership capacities spanning the development lifecycle, such as chief architect, chief engineer, system engineer manager for space and ground-based systems
- At least 15 years technical experience including design, development, and integration and test (including a combination of two or more of following - systems, software, hardware, firmware/FPGA, etc.)
- Extensive knowledge of Risk and Opportunity Management Processes
- Extensive knowledge of Systems/Software Engineering processes
- Knowledge of Programmatic Processes
- Ability to establish and maintain effective communication with Senior Management, and Customer personnel
- U.S. citizenship is required
- Requires an active or current (active within the last five years) TS/SCI SSBI security clearance.
Desired Experience, Skills, Knowledge:

Prior experience as a Chief Engineer or Chief Architect for a major, complex development program

20+ years in system engineering in technical roles of increasing responsibility

MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Physics or related Engineering field
