JOB SUMMARY:

Patient Access Specialist utilizes skills and knowledge to perform duties associated with admitting patients for hospital services and operate the hospital's telephone communication system. Other clerical job tasks are performed to help facilitate the efficient operation of the hospital.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* High school graduate

* Knowledge of medical terminology (completion of basic courses) preferred

* Office administration courses and/or other related courses preferred.

* Minimum work experience of one year in a clerical setting to include high volume telephone usage (incoming calls), data entry, and basic clerical functions including MS Word and Excel strongly preferred. Previous experience in a healthcare setting helpful.

* Must have typing and/or data skills that are accurate. Knowledge of and ability to use basic office machines necessary for daily duties. Legible handwriting and accurate spelling is essential

* Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills necessary for interaction with patients, visitors and staff.

* Multi-tasking skills necessary for performing day to day functions, as the position may experience frequent and multiple interruptions. Must able to function independently, as well as a team member. Flexibility, dependability and a professional demeanor and appearance are required.
