Position Description
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a registered professional nurse who demonstrates expertise in a specific area of clinical nursing that has been further developed through Masters preparation in Nursing. Using principles of case management, the CNS focuses on improvement of processes, treatments, plans of care and other related interventions and makes recommendations to improve the delivery of high quality care to all patient populations. The CNS functions as a clinical resource, providing clinical, professional, educational and quality improvement consultation to our Associates in pursuit of improved care delivery and improved patient outcomes. The scope of practice encompasses the use of the nursing process in: practice, education, consultation, research and administration. This position, must demonstrate a commitment of quality service to our patients, the public, physicians and our Associates. The Perinatal/Maternal/Neonatal/Pediatrics Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for facilitating the development of clinical excellence in their respective areas of assignment and will serve as a resource for nurses and other healthcare professionals / providers on ages. The CNS must also serve as a resource for hospitalized patients admitted to medical/surgical and other areas due to other complications.
Qualifications:
* RN license in state of Virginia.
* Masters in Nursing and advanced knowledge of Perinatal/Maternal/Neonatal/Pediatric nursing theory and practice required.
* Professional certification required by the Virginia State Board of Nursing.
* Minimum of five (5) years experience in formal/informal settings preferred: knowledge of adult learning principles required.
* Skill in the use of specialized equipment used in respective area of practice.
* Familiarity with philosophy, organizational structure and policies and procedures of the Perinatal/Pediatric Departments highly desirable.
* Exceptional interpersonal skills: communication, collaboration and conflict resolution.
* Knowledge of systems and change process.
* Demonstrated leadership skills, creativity, self direction and organization required.
* Demonstrates sensitivity to cost containment measures and creates an atmosphere which encourages this * * practice by conserving hospital supplies, equipment and human resources.
* Must meet the physical qualifications of the job.
