Position Description

The School Nurse will:
    • Provides medically prescribed interventions, including medication administration (based on state regulations).
    • Provides care to ill students on a daily basis, including first aid to injured students and staff.
    • Maintains comprehensive school health records.
    • Participates on the school’s Medical Management Team.
    • Maintains the school clinic equipment and supplies.
    • Provides crisis intervention (e.g. adolescent pregnancy, substance abuse, death of a family member, suicide, and child abuse or neglect issues, etc.
    • Administers vision, hearing , and scoliosis screening (or provide information to parents about scoliosis). Refers for follow up evaluation when needed as required by school board policies.
    • Assists with school registration and interpret health requirements.
    • Assist in the development of individualized student health care plans.
    • Participates in student centered school team meetings, as appropriate.
    • Act as a resource for health education.
    • Follow all OSHA Regulations.

Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must a valid license to practices as a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Washington, DC. Must maintain current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and first aid form a recognized provider. Must have a minimum of two years supervised nursing experience in community or child health prior to entry into school nursing practice.
