Job Description

The Senior Buyer is responsible for the procurement execution of assigned goods and services in accordance with the quality, delivery and pricing expectations of iDirect. In addition, assumes a value-add role within the iDirect Operations/Purchasing Team as a mentor to buyers; an example of professionalism; exhibits strong purchasing fundamentals and may be a technical resource across functions. The primary, responsibility will be for all Commodity related procurement as well as NPI activities. Work cross-functionally with sales support on all third party equipment required for sales team.

  • Effectively manage product forecast, spend and inventory
  • Lead creation and execution of long term commodity strategies
  • Work with Engineering to develop and select component platforms to enhance Design for Manufacturability
  • Work to ensure lowest cost and delivery
  • Obtain quotes, negotiate pricing, manage POs and develop long term commodity procurement strategies
  • Purchase in accordance with the guidelines set forth by iDirect management and Agile AVL adherence, unit price, quality and delivery.
  • Comply with contracts with regard to buying from correct suppliers.
  • Comply with contracts with regard to buying at negotiated prices.
  • Placing purchase orders for parts that have liability (NC/NR) at the component lead-time only
  • Makes tactical buying decisions with respect to the placement and management of all purchases within assigned portfolio to meet scheduled demand. This process encompasses order placement, rescheduling and/or cancellation of items.
  • Manage with CM POs - placement, receipts, discrepancies and delivery expectations of commodities
  • Align correct quantity of parts with scheduled due date.
  • Ability to estimate purchased item unit price values according to knowledge of commodity market dynamics.
  • Timely placement of proto-type purchase orders.
  • Management of all pertinent proto-type purchase activities and information:
    • Part shortage information.
    • Alternate supplier information.
    • Build and delivery schedules.
  • Review all delivery issues and take appropriate corrective action to avoid schedule impact
  • Engage the Parts Shortage Escalation Process.
  • Expedite, revise and effect cancellation when necessary
  • Resolve disposition of rejected goods and rework costs
  • Source multiple or alternate suppliers where possible
  • Manage the commodity supply chain transitions through the product life cycle and EOL
  • Resolve issues within iDirect, supply base or distribution relative to commodities
  • Drive supplier and component qualification risk assessment and reviews
  • Maintaining continuous improvement programs for assigned commodities.
  • Parts Delivery (Post Purchase Management):
  • Negotiate lead-time constraints with suppliers to negate missed commitment dates

General:

  • Use correct and approved forms to conduct Purchasing activities.
  • Meet with suppliers to discuss contracts, price negotiations, lead-time issues, open order status, new product lines, etc.
  • Follow procedures for Purchasing as outlined in the appropriate SOPs.
  • Attend and contribute to Operations Team meetings.
  • Be available as a mentor to other Purchasing personnel.
  • Assist the Purchasing Manager on all projects as assigned.
  • Employee may support global operations (Some Travel may be Required)


Qualifications

Education: BA/BS in Business or related

A minimum of 8-10 years of purchasing experience as a Senior Buyer with increasing responsibilities is required.

Specific emphasis on Commodities, Engineering Prototype and NPI builds and experience either with electronic contract manufacturing or in a contract manufacturing environment

Additionally, the employee must successfully complete all internal training courses offered by the company necessary to fulfill this position.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

Excellent PC and Systems skills to include

  • MRP/ERP systems and reporting
  • MS Office Applications
  • CRM and PLM applications
  • Working towards or formal APICS certification is a plus

In addition to the knowledge, skills and abilities expected of a Buyer, a Senior Buyer must be effective in the following areas as well:

  • Language skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or general regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures effectively and presents information and responses to questions from suppliers, managers and/or customers
