We are currently in search of a Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research Director to join our advisory group.
The newly formed Center combines Lewin's expertise in the U.S. health care system with key capabilities and assets from within Ingenix, The Lewin Group's parent company. It will bring together distinct competence and capability in conducting and supporting CER, including:
  • The Lewin Group's broad, respected record and independent point-of-view in health technology assessment, evidence-based medicine and evidence synthesis;
  • The expertise of i3 in clinical, health economics and outcomes research that helps develop better patient care; and
  • Through Ingenix, access to one of the world's largest patient databases containing de-identified integrated diagnosis, medical, and pharmacy claims data on millions of individuals. These data set types include administrative, pharmacy claims, physician and facility claims, laboratory test results and socio-economic data.
Comparative effectiveness research compares the safety, effectiveness, cost and other clinical and economic outcomes of health care interventions used to prevent, diagnose or treat diseases, disorders and other health conditions. CER findings can be used to support decisions and policies of clinicians, patients, regulatory agencies, third-party payers, health care facilities, public health programs, federal and state policy makers and others. The Lewin Group Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research will provide analysis of data and policy, and related consulting to support the identification and implementation of CER priorities and advance the state of comparative effectiveness research.
In particular, the Center will offer:
  • Provision of data sets and registries
  • Data analysis, including of linked data sets and electronic health records
  • Tools for analysis of longitudinal health outcomes for treatment effectiveness
  • Services to conduct and manage Institutional Review Board approved comparative trials
  • CER technical assistance, CER knowledge transfer and consulting on CER methods and policies
In this role, you can expect to work with federal agencies such as AHRQ, NIH, CMS, FDA, and other agencies and offices in DHHS, DoD, and VA, as well as federal contractors, academic health centers, non-profit advocacy groups, state government agencies and pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device manufacturers.
Responsibilities will include the following:
Team Leadership:
  • Serve as point person for external and internal communications. Internal communications include those within Lewin and across Ingenix and UHG as appropriate
  • Recruit, motivate and retain Center-assigned staff and others across Lewin and Ingenix who participate in the Center's activities.
  • Develop Center staff
  • Manage performance
Delivery and Implementation:
  • Develop and oversee management of proposals
  • Insure quality and timeliness of projects
  • Drive innovation in delivery
  • Develop opportunities within existing projects (additional work for client, areas where tools, techniques or work projects could be redeveloped for other clients)
  • "Visibility" management (marketing, PR, press coverage, conferences, etc.)
  • Identify and field appropriate resources (Lewin, i3, Ingenix Consulting, Ingenix, external) on projects
Metrics and Measurement:
  • Management of P&L to meet targets
  • Project financial performance targets
  • Utilization of staff
  • Reporting
Qualifications
Advanced degree (PhD or MD preferred) and 7 - 10 years (post doctoral) experience, OR advanced degree (e.g., masters in public health, health services research, or related field) and 10 - 12 years experience, in fields related to comparative effectiveness research, (e.g., health technology assessment, outcomes research, evidence-based medicine, health economics). Experience required in more than one of such areas as managing systematic reviews; health technology assessment reports; cost-effectiveness analyses; evidence-based practice guidelines and/or quality measures; priority-setting for biomedical research; analyses of claims data, registries, and other health care databases; managing government and private sector grants and/or contracts. Superb writing and verbal communication skills required.
