Mental Health Recovery Support Specialist

Green Door is a community program that prepares women and men with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other mental illnesses to work and live independently in the District of Columbia. Green Door is recognized nationally as one of the most successful programs for people with mental illness. Since 1976, Green Door has helped thousands of people with mental illnesses from hospitals, homeless shelters, and community mental health centers to reclaim their lives.

Recovery Support Specialist Position Overview:
Green Door is seeking individuals to become Recovery Support Specialists on an Assertive Community Treatment Team providing intensive, wrap around services to adults diagnosed with serious mental illness and substance use disorders. Recovery Support Specialists will teach skills and provide supports to consumers in the home and community to help them live independently.

Skills taught and duties performed include:
• Symptom identification and management
• Crisis planning and support in crisis situations
• Accessing community resources for housing, benefits, and food
• Understanding medication benefits/side effects
• Living skills such as budgeting, cooking, utilizing public transportation
• Improving physical health
• Social/communication skills
• Participation in the on-call service for urgent situations

This is an exceptionally rewarding position that positively impacts the lives of others. We offer LICSW and LPC supervision toward licensure. Full time openings with day, evening and weekend hours available.

Qualifications:
Strong organization and time management skills, computer and communication skills.
BA, MA, MSW or HS with 2yrs mental health experience.
Individuals with serious mental illness who are in recovery are encouraged to apply.

Must have good driving record. We provide mileage reimbursement. $30-36k + bonuses.
