Position Description
Rare opportunity to join a Washington DC based firm recently honored as a finalist for the Helios Apollo Award which recognizes excellence in providing career development.
Plan and conduct (hands-on) the company’s general accounting operations, including gathering and reporting of financial information, and conduct some business administrative functions.
Duties:
• Paychex payroll for 50 staff
• Calculate sales commissions monthly
• Accounts Receivable
• Accounts Payable
• Serve as fiduciary of 401K plan ensuring investments are made on a timely basis and calculations for contributions and matches are correct.
• Make daily decisions concerning the accounting treatment of financial transactions and recommend solutions to complex accounting problems.
• Analyze and reconcile expenditure and revenue accounts, monthly bank statements and investment reports.
• Assist staff with budget questions, proper expenditure coding, document processing and other accounting related tasks.
Planning, Analysis and Reporting:
• Analyze the accounting system to determine the need for new accounts, revisions in the account structure, new types of ledgers, revisions in reporting system, changes in the use of accounts and new account classifications or definitions. Identify and resolve accounting operations problems; suggest improvements to accounting operations.
• Conduct financial analyses.
• Project accounting data to show effects of proposed plans on investments, cash, credit line and overall financial condition.
• Develop and document accounting policies and procedures. Assure standard accounting procedures are adhered to and supervises the maintenance of accounting and voucher files.
• Prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger and subsidiary accounts; prepare monthly financial statements.
• Implement and lead the preparation of budgets and revenue target planning sheets.
• Prepare additional reports as needed including workers compensation audit reports, 401K testing reports, credit-line compliance reports
• Ensure that licenses and permits are current for jurisdictions in which we do business. Responsible for business insurance.
Other:
• Assist with preparation of tax returns, estimated tax payments and ensure tax regulations are being adhered to. Interface with accounting firm.
• Provide assistance as needed to recruiters in determining accounting skills and suitability of candidates. May occasionally be asked to accompany recruiters or business development managers on marketing calls or be asked to consult with clients.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Bachelors degree in Accounting
• Five to seven years accounting experience
