The candidate must be well organized, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills and perform well in a team environment. The applicant will be detail oriented, while remaining flexible to the fluid demands of the position. The candidate must be proficient with the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office suite of applications. Familiarity with the operation and or design of Oracle and Microsoft Access database applications will reflect positively upon an applicant.
Candidate must be physically able to work in a shipyard environment, as well as in an office setting. The position also requires the willingness and ability to perform shipchecks in an industrial environment. These inspections will include enclosed areas inside of ships hull and exposed areas above the main deck. The ideal applicants will posses an interest in military affairs, in particular naval ship construction and operation.
Individuals with prior service in the Navy, Coast Guard or Merchant Marine may substitute experience for a bachelors degree. In addition, experience in the shipbuilding & repair industry may also be accepted as a substitute for a bachelors degree. Experience in related industrial environments will also be viewed positively but will be reviewed to determine applicability.
The position requires a candidate be willing to travel roughly 25% - 40% of the year. Travel is both short, and long term in nature. Although most travel can be anticipated well in advance, emergent travel requirements are not uncommon.
This position requires the applicant already posses, or be able to obtain an interim secret clearance within two weeks of hiring date.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Marine Engineering and/or Navy/ NAVSEA experience is preferred.
