About the Department and the Interventional Radiology Technologist 2 Position:

The Invasive Cardiovascular Labs are comprised of 14 labs (Cardiac Cath Labs, Interventional Radiology Labs, and Electrophysiology Labs) including a Comprehensive stroke center with 2 bi-plane Neurovascular rooms. As an Interventional Radiology Technologist 2 in the IR Lab at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, you will participate in cases related to:

Both Neuro and Vascular cases to include:

  • Middle Meningeal artery Embolization
  • Complex Neuro aneurysm treatments (Flow Diverter cases, coilings, & Device Assisted coilings)
  • Stroke
  • Staged AVM treatments

Vascular cases include:

  • Complex Peripheral intervention (Atherectomy & Thrombectomy)
  • Advanced Biliary intervention (BATO/BRTO & TIPS)
  • Interventional Oncology (Y90/ Tace (Philips Emboguide system), Port placement, & Pain management (Cryo/Microwave))
  • Vascular embolization cases (Trauma and GI, Subclavian post TEVAR, Sclerotherapy, Pelvic congestion, & AAA Endoleak repair)
  • Complex Pulmonary intervention (CTEPH (Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary hypertension), Management with Balloon angioplasty & PE thrombectomy)

    Job Responsibilities

  • Effectively utilizes Inova Health System Inventory Management systems.
  • Assists RNs to accurately explain procedures to patients and families to ease anxiety.
  • Troubleshoots equipment effectively and places service calls to Biomedical when necessary.
  • Anticipates procedure flow and works with other team members to produce the highest quality care.
  • Provides a safe environment and identifies hazards immediately. Follows unit protocols to take corrective actions as needed.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in imaging modalities in Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology such as digital, laser printing, and cut film.
  • Showcases an advanced knowledge of sterile techniques while assisting and supporting interventional radiologists during procedures.
  • Demonstrates proper technique for injection of IV contrast, or other test-enhancing solution, under the guidelines of the American College of Radiology (ACR).
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.



Additional Requirements

Certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) and American Registered Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registry in Vascular Interventional (VI), Cardiovascular (CV) or Cardiovascular Interventional(CI)

Licensure - Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Radiologic Technologist is required only if the position is located in a free-standing center not affiliated with an Inova Health System Hospital.

Experience - One year of work experience as a Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology Technologist.

Education -Vocational/Technical in the area of study in Radiologic Technology; Graduate of an accredited school of Radiography; Associate or higher degree preferred
