Job Description

Are you an experienced electrical power systems expert with a background in naval operations? Do you thrive in a dynamic and challenging environment? Sayres is seeking a skilled Electrical Power System (EPS) Senior Technician, with Secret Clearance, or the ability to obtain a clearance, to join our team in Bath, Maine. This position would ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of cutting-edge DDG 51 Class Surface Combatants and perform on-site representation for 4160 VAC Electrical Power System (EPS) Support Systems support for DDG 51 Class Surface Combatants under construction at Bath Iron Works.

Possess a working-level knowledge of various systems and equipment, including:

  • 4160VAC Ship Service Gas Turbine Generators.
  • 1000VDC Power Conversion Modules (PCM's).
  • 400hz power converters.
  • AN/SPY-6 Radar.
  • 4160VAC High Voltage power system distribution and operation.
  • Ship Service Transformers.
  • 450VAC Zonal distribution.
  • Automatic/Manual Bus Transfer (ABT/MBT/SSABT) Operations.
  • Protective Relay Functionality and Fiber Connections.
  • DDG51 Electrical Bus Knowledge is required.

Duties may include:

  • Ensure that equipment and system tests are conducted in accordance with test procedures and/or work packages.
  • Provide equipment status and problem reporting, along with recommendations for improving shipboard systems' operation and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with the Aegis Test team, including shift work as needed, to support testing and operation activities.
  • Operate Power Conversion Modules as required to support AN/SPY-6 operations during the shipyard stage testing program.

As part of your role, you will be responsible for supporting various Navy documentation efforts, including but not limited to:

  • Support the efforts of the NSWCPD EOSS development team, including cold checks and hot checks. Provide on-site support to resolve questions, validate equipment and associated piping systems, and track discrepancies.
  • Assist the ship's crew in developing the relief valve/safety settings list and provide safety settings for Main Turbine Generators.
  • Support the development of Planned Maintenance System (PMS) in collaboration with NSWCPD.
  • Identify and create a list of vendor valves, renumber them as needed, and facilitate printing and installation of valve labels.
  • Assist the NSWCPD VCHT CERT and OPA CERT teams in their efforts.
  • Develop and verify lists for installed flex hoses and expansion joints to support the ship's crew.
  • Assist the NSWCPD SISCAL development team with on-site support, equipment validation, and tracking discrepancies.
  • Provide various reports, including tracking test progress, test observations, operational reports, weekly test reports, equipment status reporting, and comprehensive engineering reports.
  • Support NSWCPD visitors with the SUPSHIP Bath visitors package and coordinate equipment testing/operation with BIW and SUPSHIPBA.
  • Provide engineering documentation of programs, equipment tech manuals, and systems drawings to the ship's crew.
  • Participate in various meetings, tracking resolutions in weekly reports, including Integration, PCM, Generator IPT, Test, Sail away, LOA, and other relevant meetings.
  • Offer technical support to BIW Test and Evaluation team, ship's crew, BIW operators, and SSBA.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Required and Preferred Experience:

  • Prior Navy Veterans with experience in DDG1000/51/CG47 GSE, EM, IC, and AEGIS FC type roles are preferred.
  • Prior Waterfront technician support.
  • Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
