Overview

Waters is searching for a creative Senior Mechanical Designer to become an integral member of the Separations Technology Instrument Development Group (IDG). From concept through volume production the Designer will be responsible for successful design, 3D modeling and creation of production quality drawings of components, subassemblies, and top level instruments used in liquid chromatography systems.

The candidate will have strong parametric 3D modeling and drafting skills to develop products, taking into consideration design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, interchangeability, ease of assembly, and cost. The candidate will also be experienced in use of Document Management & Lifecycle systems.

Responsibilities
  • Create complete documentation packages, which will include part models, assembly models, detail drawings, assembly drawings, commercial part specifications, Bills of Material, and Engineering Change Orders (ECO's)
  • Coordinate with other organizations affected by design and development changes, such as process development, quality, marketing, purchasing, and suppliers.
  • Analyze models & drawings to determine proper fit and function, correctness and completeness of information and conformance to standards.
  • Participate and present in design/drawing reviews.
  • Brainstorm, research, document and communicate solutions to mechanical problems either independently or working within the group.
  • Participate in prototype building and basic testing.
  • Support Engineering in developing new products.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: Associates Degree in Engineering or technically related field (preferred), and 8+ years experience in design and drafting of precision electro-mechanical products
  • Preferred: Bachelor Science Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor Engineering Technology and 5+ years experience

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in parametric Solid Modeling (SolidWorks preferred / UGNX would be a plus) and creation of production quality drawings
  • Advanced ability using and applying industry drafting standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5M-1994 / ASME Y14.5M-2009
  • Ability to conduct tolerance analysis of complex assemblies.
  • Experience writing and processing ECO's, practicing organized revision control using Document Management systems (eg PDM) & Lifecycle tools (SAP preferred)
  • Experience in sheet metal fabrication, castings, plastic materials, precision machined parts, molded part design, rapid prototyping, and knowledge of machining and manufacturing processes and capability.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within and outside of team, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with management, peers, suppliers and customers
  • Ability to quickly solve challenging problems while checking work for completeness.
  • Passion for Mechanical Design.
  • Excellent computer skills with strong proficiency in Windows interface; Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
