Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a positive role model by exhibiting patience, tolerance, and reflective listening.
  • Establish working relationships with referring agencies, schools, and community partners and maintain records of all contacts.
  • Assist in the screening of applicants for the programming by reviewing records, observations, and interviewing.
  • Responsible for supervision of youth at all time during programming activities. Assist in the provision of on-going assessment and support, including regular feedback from the referring agency, school, or community partner.
  • Provide soft skill, general work skills, and independent living training on a regular basis.
  • Be available to meet with referring agencies and school personnel as needed.
  • Maintain individual data and report progress to the referring agency or school.
  • Complete written daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly reports and invoice for billing purposes.
  • Maintain individual youth files (paper and digital), according to Goodwill approved Policy and Procedures Manual.
  • Be a responsible, caring, adult who, in partnership with parents and legal guardian, provides support, encouragement, reinforcement, and a constructive example.
  • Provide follow-up at the completion of programming.
  • Be responsible for the safety of youth participants in his/her charge.
  • Maintain confidentiality as it pertains to youth participants.
  • Perform job training and site development as needed.
  • Assist in determining the best job suited to a youth participant by matching job training site features to the youth's strengths, preferences, interests, and needs: including accessibility to the job, physical ability, family support, social skills, motivation and daily living skills.
  • Build a relationship with the youth by planning and participating in activities together.
  • Strive for mutual respect and help build self-esteem and motivation.
  • Promote and exhibit personal and social responsibility.
  • Help to set and manage goals, and support youth as they work to accomplish them.
  • Be punctual while also remaining respectful of the other's time, opinions, and decision making.
  • Attend Court Hearing(s) (and possibly provide testimony based on services provided) as requested by a Judge or Court Services Unit.
  • Provide staff coverage for other departments/programing and special events.
  • Engage and build rapport with all participants.
  • Responsible for implementation and adherence to maintenance of various policies and procedures pertaining to programs and agency's operations. This includes but not limited to Employee Handbook, safety policies, and CARF standards.
  • Pursue continuing education as related to job responsibilities, including attending conferences and training, and pursue certification where needed.
  • Cognizant of safety and health requirements, reports/correct violations and assists with administering CPR and first aid as necessary. Maintain appropriate certifications in CPR/First Aid.
  • Act as a Mandated Reporter as defined by the state of Virginia.

  • Participate in organizational meetings, committees and work groups as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Youth Services Program Manager

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) or equivalent; or two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience preferred in dealing with individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents relating to human rights. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical equations.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of practical problems. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to provide proof of insurance is required to drive personal vehicle on company business. Additionally, an acceptable motor vehicle record based on Goodwill guidelines is required to drive a company vehicle or to transport program participants.
  • First -Aid/CPR
  • Other health and safety training as required
