Job Description
Printpack Rigid is seeking a candidate to fill an Extrusion Team Lead position in our Williamsburg, VA Facility on night shift. This position will report to the Extrusion Supervisor and his/her key responsibility is to operate the Extrusion machine safely and efficiently, in accordance with specifications and quality standards, to convert plastic resin into rolls of plastic and ensure adequate materials are available for production.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Foster an environment focused on safety. Including but not limited to: performing machine safety audits, behavior-based safety observations, identifying near misses and opportunities for improvement, driving associate engagement on shift, performing lock out tag out

  • Set up and/or operate equipment (Extruder, vacuum pumps, material blenders, heated equipment, mobile pallet jacks, hoists, micrometers, microscopes, vision systems, edge trim or calibrated scales).

  • Audit process parameters, documenting and ensuring correct inputs for product quality, per customer specifications.

  • Perform basic operator Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Daily Team Maintenance (DTM) to avoid shutdowns.

  • Swiftly identify and troubleshoot minor equipment failures

  • Recognize product quality defects and make process adjustments to correct

  • Recognize and respond to material handling issues (blender, scales, dryers, etc.)

  • Meet changing production needs by performing product changeovers, replacing screens, dies and inserts according to manufacturing specifications

  • Weigh and mix pelletized or granular thermoplastic materials.

  • Maintain compliance with safe handling procedures to prevent accidents and spillage.

  • Read and follow production schematics to produce products in line with design and manufacturing standards.

  • Maintain compliance with food safety regulations

  • Ability to use computer system such as Microsoft Office and Inventory Managing Software

Additional Key Responsibilities include:

  • Backfill for the shift supervisor position to include planning and organizing the shifts production needs

  • Verify daily production requirement/changeover needs, verify condition of shift turnover and material supply levels

  • Support/drive investigations to respond to customer complaints

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the extrusion process and related equipment to train and develop associates on shift

  • Identify areas for improvement regarding cost, time, quality, and safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • High School Diploma/GED or minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience.

  • Minimum of 1 year experience operating heavy machinery or equipment.

  • Ability to obtain forklift certification.

  • Mechanically inclined.

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to wear required PPE (hearing protection, safety glasses, hairnet, uniforms, and steel-toed shoes)

  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays (36/48 weekly shift), as needed.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience working with Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts.

  • Previous experience using industry standard tools (pneumatic and electrical)

  • Previous experience with Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.

  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite or Inventory Managing Software

  • Extrusion Master Tech Certification from Printpack Rigid or the ability to obtain Master Tech Certification within 1 year of hire

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no direct supervisory duties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift up to 65 lbs.

  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to perform the following: bending, lifting, repetitive motions, walking, and squatting.
