Position Summary:

TESAT Gov (an Airbus U.S. subsidiary) is looking for a driven Senior Project Engineer to act as a technical leader, interfacing with government customers and as a liaison with subcontractors for programs and projects focused on the development and integration of optical communication systems for space applications. Position Responsibilities

The Senior Project Engineer is a key player to a program's success. The candidate will be contributing towards the development of TESAT Gov's Optical Communication Terminal (OCT) programs based on TESAT-Spacecom (subsidiary of AIRBUS). The Senior Project Engineer's primary responsibility will be to coordinate programmatic and project technical tasks with System, Production, and Subcontractor activities across the organization based on execution schedules, internal and external priorities, while primarily maintaining responsibility on efficient execution of discrete tasking. The Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of the design, developmental, and testing of the overall product to ensure the projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards.


Project Engineering: 75%

  • Serves as Project Engineer supporting all technical aspects of a program by acting as a technical interface with customers and contractors, while coordinating engineering activities, change proposals, and maintaining change control documentation.
  • Supports program management in the preparation of technical proposals, program schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Prepares and reviews design change documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with program technical requirements and contract proposal and compliance information.
  • Develops system improvement design change proposals in concert with key suppliers, internal functional organizations, and customer representatives, to enhance production, reliability, and functionality.
  • Interfaces with program management, manufacturing, production planning, quality assurance, and procurement functional organizations and key suppliers, to ensure technical compliance of production systems, subsystems, and components with contract requirements.
  • Plans, conducts/supports, and reports on program analytical activities.

Program Management: 15%

  • Support planning and forecasting of programs and projects based on resource allocation and organization project forecasts.
  • Continuous reporting of a projects progress to Senior and Director level leaders of the organization.
  • Troubleshooting of problems as they arise on a project by finding efficient and effective solutions.

Additional Responsibilities: 10%

  • Assist with the creation internal guidelines, processes, and procedures in support of programmatic and project execution activities.
  • Support Airbus U.S. Defense Space Products footprint execution roadmap: includes, staffing, design adjustments, schedule, and cost targets aligned for future business captures.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.
  • Preferred: Master's in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years with a Bachelor's degree or 5 years with a Masters.
  • A fundamental understanding of the Space industry and related sciences or engineering concepts
  • A proven track-record of project and technical leadership experience with aerospace or military programs with direct interface experience with a government or defense entity.
  • Experience in either the Government or private industry with an emphasis on integration of payloads, definition of hardware, and configuration management.
  • Experience developing a project plan that includes decomposition or programmatic milestones into discrete technical tasks.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Ability to multitask and to work with others as a part of a team
  • Familiarity with elements of space communications mission architectures and CONOPs
  • Experience with systems architecture, requirements definition and decomposition, and requirements verification and validation (e.g. Requirements Verification and Traceability Matrices)
  • Experience leading and/or performing analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance or other specialties engineering disciplines
  • Communicate in a clear and concise manner effectively across multiple levels.
  • Be team-minded and ready to work in a multi-functional and multi-cultural, fast-moving and complex/technical environment.
  • Flexible attitude and strong initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results.

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):

  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Strong ability to present technical information succinctly.
  • Mature ability to translate customer desires into system requirements.

Technical Systems Proficiency:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with Requirements Management Tools (Such as DOORS / JIRA / etc).

Travel Required:

  • 20% Domestic and International

Eligibility:

  • US Citizenship

Clearance:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government security clearance
  • Active DoD security clearance at Secret or above highly desirable

Nature of Contacts:

Role includes involved communication with internal and external parties on a frequent basis.

Physical Requirements:

  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents.
  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
  • Standing: able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Walking: able to walk through office and outside areas including uneven surfaces.
