Position Description

Deque is hiring a Senior Technical Instructional Designer to work with the Deque University team in creating accessibility training materials appropriate for technical audiences, such as web developers, mobile app developers, or technical accessibility testers. The ideal candidate comes from a JavaScript developer background, has created engaging technical instructional content in written and video formats, is comfortable with HTML, CSS, and markdown, has the ability to learn the basics of other programming or scripting languages, and has the ability to create work with subject matter experts on technical topics to create best-in-class accessibility instructional content for discerning technical audiences.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Create technical instructional content in written and video format for developers and other similar audiences.
  • Create and integrate functional examples of accessible JavaScript components and other code into course content where appropriate.
  • Work with subject matter experts to ensure the accuracy and usefulness of instructional content.
  • Write graded exam questions and answers, following psychometric best practices
  • Write other instructional or explanatory content, such as checklists, articles, blog posts, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Deque University platform team to ensure the platform functionality provides best-in-class learning experiences
  • Collaborate with the instructor-led training team to ensure consistency and synergy between self-paced and live training
Requirements
  • Comfortable creating content in HTML, CSS, and markdown
  • Able to create custom components in JavaScript, and to clearly explain the logic and structure of those components
  • Interested and able to learn new programming or scripting languages or frameworks
  • Experience creating engaging instructional videos for technical audiences
  • IAAP CPACC certified, or the pass the exam within 2 months of hire
  • IAAP WAS certified, or pass the exam within 4 months of hire
  • Maintain current IAAP credentials through ongoing continuing accessibility education credits (CAECs)
  • Ability to perform the full training development process: assessing needs, writing requirements, working with subject matter experts, creating the training materials, and evaluating their effectiveness
