BeamCut Operator - Steel America
Purpose:
Steel America, a division of Colonna's Shipyard, is seeking an experienced BeamCut Operator to support operations on 2nd Shift (3pm-11:30pm) in the Fabrication Shop at our site in Norfolk, VA.
The BeamCut Operator will use a CNC automatic beam cutting machine to make precision cuts on various metal structural profiles.
Job Description:
  • Operates a CNC automatic beam cutting machine to make precision cuts on various metal structural profiles.
  • Prepares, sets up, and adjusts BeamCut machine as required by product plans and production schedules.
  • Ensures that there are sufficient raw materials available.
  • Measures and aligns materials to be used.
  • Inspects products, evaluating finished pieces for compliance with quality standards and specifications.
  • Performs routine maintenance on the BeamCut machine.
  • Maintains a clean work area.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Must have a HS diploma (or equivalent) and at least two (2) years of experience operating a CNC automatic beam cutting machine in a steel service center or fabrication environment.
  • Must be able to read, interpret, and follow product plans, blueprints, and/or drawings.
  • Must demonstrate basic levels of mathematical, reading, writing and communication skills necessary to successfully accomplish the job requirements as outlined above.
  • Must be able to work all shifts, overtime, and weekends.
  • Must be a steady, reliable worker.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience operating plasma burn tables and/or press brakes preferred.
  • CNC Programming experience preferred.
Travel Requirements:
  • Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs.
  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions.
  • Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
  • Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts.
  • While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
  • Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
  • Frequent use of respirator.
