Job Description

This position is responsible for the placement and administration of purchase orders in support of the Commercial Fleet. Such activity may include the execution of standard purchase orders and long-term global pricing agreements. Tasks shall include establishing sources, preparing bid lists and requests for quote, negotiating, drafting purchase orders, documenting procurements, and monitoring/managing supplier performance. Sourcing Agents will work closely with Technical Organization to orchestrate and execute planned buys in a cradle to grave supply management environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receiving and reviewing purchase requests as assigned.

  • Selecting and recommending sources of supply.

  • Negotiating and placing orders/contracts with qualified sources.

  • Authorized to sign purchase orders of up to $50,000.

  • Monitoring all orders/contracts from placement to completion.

  • Reconciling all problems with orders and contracts.

  • Communicating with vessels, company agents, and technical operations via written and oral correspondence.

  • Identifying best practices and process optimization opportunities.

  • Evaluating suppliers, based on quality, and making recommendations accordingly.

  • Performing such research as necessary to develop new/alternate sources of supply.

  • Ensuring competitive bidding process and filling needs by selecting a balance of cost, quality, or schedule

  • Working closely with Technical/Engineering, and Finance personnel to develop compliant cost/price strategies, in response to Technical Organization needs for voyage repairs and other supplies and services.

  • Negotiating pricing and terms and conditions.

  • Supporting commitment to safety and other selected company standards and certifications

  • Performing other position-related duties as specified by management

Position Specifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred; 5 years' experience in an industrial or operational marine procurement environment preferred (degree must be from an accredited institution).

Technical Skills and Competencies Required

  • Certification as a Certified Professional in Supply Management, or CPSM (ISM), or Certified Supply Chain Professional, or CSCP (APICS), highly desirable.

  • Must have computer skills in Microsoft Word, Windows, Outlook, and Excel.

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • PeopleSoft experience is a plus.
