POSITION PURPOSE: The Electrical, Instrument and Controls (EI&C) Technician will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments, control systems and electrical equipment in the power plant and the associated facilities. Perform work of high skill in the inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, installation and removal of all electronic and electrical power plant equipment and systems. Track preventative maintenance and defective equipment work tasks in the facilities utilizing CMMS preventative maintenance management system.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain plant field instrumentation and controls and electrical equipment in excellent working order by performing maintenance and repair as necessary.
  • Perform plant preventive and predictive maintenance as assigned in a precise and accurate manner; collect trended data on equipment as directed.
  • Maintain, evaluate and make recommendations on improving plant spare parts inventory.
  • Maintain all calibration records as per regulatory requirements.
  • Service and maintain plant equipment in accordance with vendor recommendations and plant established procedures.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of plant logic and control schemes trouble shoot the systems utilizing drawings and diagrams.
  • Be familiar with plant manuals, system descriptions, operating procedures and emergency response plans and be able to access them when needed.
  • Inspect repair, install and remove all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries, and work with electrical systems up to and including 12KV.
  • Conduct trouble shooting, calibration, and analysis on all facility instrumentation such as DCS, PLC and turbine control equipment and systems.
  • Interface with outside contractors and vendors on an as needed basis.
  • Identify and diagnose plant equipment problems and adjust/correct within skill capabilities.
  • Perform electronic and electrical troubleshooting and testing.
  • Inspect, assemble, disassemble, repair and adjust all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries.
  • Successfully complete company sponsored training courses and training and qualification programs as required.
  • Operate plant equipment including trucks, bucket trucks, cranes and forklifts.
  • Maintain CEM equipment in constant compliance with all regulatory requirements regarding calibration, record keeping and reporting.
  • Practice proper Lock-out/Tag-out procedures and follow all company safety procedures.
  • Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
  • Maintain complete equipment files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment.
  • Also supports, and receives direction from, the Operations Supervisor regarding instrument and control activities as they relate to plant operations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.
  • All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the plant.
  • Ability to work at heights and on ladders amid constant noise and vibration.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in high noise and/or hot and cold temperature extremes.
  • Ability to work in proximity to high voltage and/or rapidly rotating equipment and in cramped and/or confined conditions requiring overall flexibility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination, with occasional heavy lifting.
  • Ability to wear a respirator, hardhat, hearing and eye protection.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Work outside in hot or cold, wet or dry weather.
  • Work alone and in an unsupervised environment
Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and/or two years' work experience as a technician in a related industry desirable.
  • Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of residence.
    Knowledge of power plant equipment such as motors, pumps, boilers, turbines, generators, fluid systems, chemical handling, water treatment systems, cooling towers, pollution control equipment (i.e. dust suppression, bag house, scrubber, selective catalytic reduction unit), AC and DC electrical distribution and control systems, etc.
  • Basic understanding of fundamental principles of mathematics, AC and DC electrical theory, heat transfer and fluid flow, thermodynamics, chemistry, and metallurgy.
    Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings such as P&IDs, single line diagrams, schematics, and logics.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
