About the Department:

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) supports students through ethical and responsive care and prevention. We foster the well-being of the diverse Mason community through psychological, outreach, and consultation services. We provide high-quality training to emerging mental health professionals. About the Position:

The Clinical Case Manager provides case management for students through initial triage, referrals to campus and community resources, and follows up to ensure that students are able to access services. Provides "bridging" services (e.g., brief therapeutic intervention, crisis intervention, individual counseling, etc.) if clinically appropriate while students wait to connect with additional supports. Uses evidence-based standards to deliver clinical care that is in accordance with policies and procedures at CAPS and licensure specific guidelines for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Serves as the mental health representative on the Threat Assessment Team for the university. Coordinates and manages the flow of students requesting psychiatric services at CAPS. Maintains timely, complete, and accurate electronic medical record documentation in compliance with CAPS, state, and federal regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities:

Clinical Services:

  • Provides psychiatric case management for students through initial triage, referrals to campus and community resources, and follow-up to ensure that students are able to access services;
  • Provides "bridging" services (e.g., brief therapeutic intervention, crisis intervention, individual counseling, etc.) if clinically appropriate while students wait to connect with additional supports;
  • Serves as the mental health representative on the Threat Assessment Team for the university;
  • Coordinates and manages the flow of students requesting psychiatric services at CAPS;
  • Maintains timely, complete, and accurate electronic medical record documentation in compliance with CAPS, state, and federal regulatory guidelines;
  • Monitors student activity with contracted telehealth vendor(s) when indicated and follow-up as needed;
  • Provides supervision as needed to trainees from a variety of mental health disciplines; and
  • Provides consultation around the clinical case management for CAPS staff.

Administrative/Program Planning/Committee:

  • Provides leadership for the overall clinical case management needs of CAPS;
  • Collaborates with Clinical Services Committee around case management service delivery;
  • Participates in other committees as assigned related to position responsibilities; and
  • Participates in continuing education requirements to maintain active licensure.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in related field;
  • Experience with case management, triage, and crisis response;
  • Experience collaborating with a multidisciplinary team;
  • Knowledge of mental health services based on receipt of a Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work;
  • Knowledge of case management based on experience with case management, triage, and crisis response;
  • Skills in collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team;
  • Demonstrated knowledge, ability, and skills necessary to effectively work with diverse populations;
  • Ability to be independently licensed as a Professional Counselor or Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Virginia at time of employment (required by start of employment); and
  • Ability to maintain licensure as a Professional Counselor or Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with collegiate mental health or similar developmental populations;
  • Knowledge of collegiate mental health or similar developmental populations; and
  • Knowledge gained from working in a medical or psychiatric setting.
