Communications and Marketing is seeking a Graphic Designer to join our multidisciplinary team to craft digital and print experiences for external and internal audiences. Our goal is to deliver beautiful and functional visuals to a wide spectrum of audiences, from prospective and current students to alumni and industry partners. Projects include a variety of brand education and management tactics, university marketing efforts, and advancement fundraising campaigns. The Graphic Designer is a critical part of the Brand Creative team and works closely with those working in marketing, licensing, editorial, photo and video, communications, and philanthropy and stewardship, among others. The ideal candidate will have academic and/or professional experience as a Graphic Designer, Art Director, or similar role working in a dynamic, high energy agency or educational setting. They are expected to demonstrate top-quality creative design in a demanding, high-volume environment. The Graphic Designer must be able to think strategically, exercise pragmatic professional judgment and be able to work both independently and collaboratively, delivering on-time and within budget.

The Brand Creative team is composed of creatives specializing in graphic design, motion design, and illustration. It is situated in the Marketing and Brand Management team in Communications and Marketing within the Advancement division. The Brand Creative team is strategically aligned to support advancement and university level priorities. The Graphic Designer reports to the Director of Brand Creative.

Required Qualifications

- Design portfolio that demonstrates creativity and innovation in digital and print design.

- Experience serving as a lead designer on projects and working directly with clients.

- Experience with all aspects of production, including design, content development, editing, proofing, print processes, distribution, and budget management.

- High proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat).

- Experience with brand identity systems and brand expression.

- Professional experience in graphic design, advertising, communications, photography or video production, or in house agency setting, or a related setting; or equivalent experience in an academic environment.

- Professional experience developing and presenting creative concepts

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, graphic design, or related discipline or significant related professional experience.

- Strong interpersonal skills.

- Familiarity with Virginia Tech brand.

- Experience successfully documenting, communicating, and managing a high volume of design projects with careful attention to details and deadlines

- Experience with motion graphics and animation for video.

- Experience managing workflow within a project management system.
