The Virginia Tech MEMS Lab at Virginia Tech is looking for a MEMS process engineer to work on a federal contract with the aim to design and develop a bench-type semiconductor-based instrument for the analysis of chemical compositions in air. The position will be located in Blacksburg, VA.

The MEMS process engineer works in coordination with Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Masoud Agah, and is primarily responsible to design, fabricate, functionalize, and test different MEMS chips that are being used in the system.

The MEMS Process Engineer will:
- Design and develop process flows and perform micro/nano fabrication or characterization
- Travel as necessary for the fabrication and testing of the microchips
- Generate and provide data as needed as part of the reporting requirements
- Function in an interdisciplinary team of researchers
- Work independently within a team environment

Required Qualifications

- A Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, material engineering, mechanical engineering, analytical chemistry, or demonstrated experience working in micro/nano fabrication cleanrooms
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Requires knowledge of laboratory and chemical safety practices
- Collaborative team player with the ability to work cross-functionally
- High degree of emotional intelligence
- Experience in MEMS process flow design
- Experience in Photolithography, deposition and etching processes common to the semiconductor field including dry and wet etching techniques

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in deep reactive ion etching (DRIE), anodic bonding, metallization, and wafer dicing
- SEM, AFM, Ellipsometry, Particulate analysis and metrology
- 3D printing experience
- PCB design and programming experience
- Chemical funtionalization of microchips
- Gas chromatography
- The ability to begin working in January 2024
